A Detailed Lesson Plan


English 09

Subject: Anglo- American Literature Date: March 4, 2020


Grade: 09-Emerald Time: 7:15- 8:15

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of how Anglo-American literature


and other text types serve as means of preserving unchanging values in a changing world; also
how to use the features of a full-length play, tense consistency, modals, active and passive
constructions plus direct and indirect speech to enable him/her competently performs in a full-
length play.

Performance Standard: The learner competently performs in a full- length play through
applying effective verbal and non-verbal strategies and ICT resources based on the following
criteria: Focus, Voice, Delivery and Dramatic Conventions.

Learning Competency: EN9G-IVf-1: Change direct to indirect speech and vice versa.
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students must have:
1. Identified the rules in changing the pronouns when converting direct speech into indirect
speech.
2. Answered the board works about converting the sentences, properly, from direct to
indirect; and
3. Established appreciation of the topic by writing an essay or a dialogue.

To better understand the table I will give some


examples. Let us start with 1st person.

Example:
Direct: She said, “I am tired.”
Indirect: She said that she was tired. A student will answer.

The 1st person changes according to the subject


of the verb in the indirect.
Now, it is your turn.
You will be the one to try the conversion of
speech using the 1st person.

1. I said, “I will clean the mess.”


The students will follow.
Try this first on your notebook.

Let us proceed to the 2nd person. A student will answer.

Example: Answer: I said that I would clean the mess.


Direct: He said to me, “You need to segregate
your trash.”
Indirect: He said to me that I need to segregate
my trash.
The second person changes according to the
object of the reporting verb.

Change this into an indirect speech.

2. Linda told him, “You can sleep.”

Let us proceed to the 3rd person. A student will answer.

Example: Answer: Linda told him that he could sleep.


Direct: He said, “She is a great singer.”
Indirect: He said that she is a great singer
The third person does not change.

Now, it is your turn.

write a composition according to what is asked
out of the assigned speech. Each speech has a
corresponding task to be accomplished.

Set 1: Indirect speech


Write a paragraph about any topic. Note that it
must contain indirect speeches and proper uses
of pronouns. You don’t have to convert them into
direct speech.

Set 2: Direct speech


Write a simple dialogue about your daily life
experiences. Note that it must contain direct
speeches and proper uses of pronouns. You
don’t have to convert them into indirect speech.
