Lesson 8
Lesson 8
Lesson 8
-Explain to students that we are going to be doing another readers theatre to practice our reading. Our goal
is that we want to read in a way that sounds like we are talking to our friends. This comes with talkings at
the right speed, using expression, and paying attention to punctuation (Prior Knowledge).
Guided Reading:
-Read the Readers Theatre - Loose Tooth.
-Mirna: Robin
-Rubii: Claire
-Rosalinda: Narrator 2
-Yeraldi: Narrator 1
-Teacher: Carter and Joe
-Have students mark their parts in the readers theatre so that they know when they are supposed to read.
-Read through the readers theatre with the students. Have students repeat parts as needed. If needed repeat
the whole readers theatre. Encourage students and stop them to make sure they are using good speed,
expression, and attention to punctuation.
Writing:
-Introduce writing and explain to students why it is so important in our world to be able to write. Explain
to them that there is so much to learn about writing, even I am still learning how to be a better writer! Use
the idea of growth mindset, that everyone can learn more about writing.
-Show students that different languages also write differently and explain how awesome that is. Show this
and explain that different cultures write differently. (Multi-cultural). Say, “We are going to learn more
about writing in English today.”
-Mini Lesson - Teacher Writing:
-On a worksheet model to the students the worksheet that they are going to be doing. They are
going to be drawing pictures of their days at school.
1. Draw pictures of different activities they have done at school.
1. Drove to school
2. Learned about science
3. Ate lunch
4. Drove to Buchanan
5. Taught students
2. Write sentences to go with each drawing. (ex. I drove from my house to
school)
3. Model to students to sounds out words as needed. For example sound out lunch
- l-un-ch.
-Children Writing and Teacher Conferencing:
-Ask the students if they have any questions about the mini lesson. Answer as needed.
-Give the students a worksheet and have them fill it out.
-While students are working on their worksheet pull students aside one at a time to conference
with them about their writings. Explain to the students that we are going to be sharing these with
the group so we are trying to create the best work that we are able to.
-Have the students revise and edit their pieces to make sure that they are “publishable” to share
with the other students. They can check the checklist to make sure they have included everything.
-With time left over give students their books and read it aloud if there is time. Tell the students thank you
again and wish them a good summer.
