Title: Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving it Focus: How does ones personal heritage affect ones duties to our nation? What is the definition of duty? Duty is the power and motivation behind the American workforce. Duty is responsibility and obligation. My duty to our nation is to serve proudly under governmental reign. My heritage, or my inheritance, is that of a strong militarial line who gave their lives for the freedom of this nation. So how does ones personal heritage affect their duties to this great nation? There were many people in our nations history that greatly affected the social, economic, and political standing for what we now call America. Look at Christopher Columbus for instance, in 1492 he founded the Americas and paved the way for settlers, our nations ancestors, to reside and populate. Abraham Lincoln, who led the United States through its greatest constitutional, military, and moral crises; the American Civil War, preserving the Union, abolishing slavery, and strengthening the national government. We owe a lot to our ancestors and predecessors. They helped grow and nourish this country. But with exponential growth, there is always exponential opposition. whether or not they should pass a bill. The sight of representatives of congress and others fighting and frantically pointing fingers at each other is sickening. Due to this catastrophe senior benefits have been taken away, veterans are not getting their checks, government offices are closed down and the American people are losing hope. It makes me wonder where we are going with our current prominence. I want to serve my country for the betterment of this nations greater good. I believe my heritage and my values will change our course as a nation, and fix what has previously been ruined. Patriotism, courage, valor, bravery, honor; these are what our nations values should be. We should not sit and watch as our nations ancestors are dishonored and forgotten. Our nation is a great super power, we are undefeatable when we are united. We are the United States of America, I believe and know that our generation will pick up this country from the ashes and build a new reform. I wish to be a large part of that reform, I want to be a part of rebuilding and perfecting our future. We will progress.
