James Gunn is a curious figure in popular culture. As a young man, just rising in the film business, Gunn co-wrote the witty and disgusting Troma epic "Tromeo & Juliet" with Lloyd Kaufman, and it featured kinky sex, a bisexual Juliet, cow monsters, mutant penis creatures, and an opening narration by Lemmy from Motörhead. After that, Gunn took the piss out of the superhero genre with "The Specials," a low-low budget film about what superheroes — petty jerks, mostly — do on their day off. He stayed aloft in Hollywood writing the screenplays for two surreal "Scooby-Doo" movies, and Zack Snyder's remake of "Dawn of the Dead" before making his directorial debut in 2006 with "Slither," another gross movie about body-invading worm monsters and wacko mutants.
Gunn then deconstructed superheroes even further with "Super" in 2010, a film that hypothesizes that superheroes are mentally ill and addicted to extreme violence. "Super" is bleak,...

Matthew Lillard admits that 'Scream' didn't change much for his career. The 54-year-old star portrayed Stu Macher in the original 1996 film in Wes Craven's horror franchise and acknowledged that it didn't have the same transformative effect for him compared to leading stars such as David Arquette and Neve Campbell.Speaking to Collider, Matthew said: "It changed a lot of people's trajectory. It did not change mine. It was not a moment in any way, shape or form where all of a sudden I got any different attention. Period."And that really sort of solidified for me, now looking back, I was like, 'Oh, I was destined to be this blue-collar actor', which is great, and I like my career. Don't get me wrong. If you'd given me my career coming in, I'd be like, 'You've gotta be kidding me. That's incredible.'"But, I really wanted to...

Matthew Lillard has one big reason why he turned down an opportunity to compete on Dancing With the Stars.
The actor recently opened up to Business Insider about his early career struggles, specifically after 2004’s Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed bombed at the box office, much to his surprise.
“I thought I’d be No. 1 on the call sheet for the next 10 years of movies,” Lillard said about the Scooby-Doo sequel, which saw him play Shaggy. “And the reality was, the exact opposite happened.”
As a result, Lillard was forced to reevaluate his career, and that’s when his team at the time pitched him on joining ABC’s dancing competition series. However, the actor wasn’t jumping at the idea.
“I was going to do Dancing with the Stars. And I was like, if I do Dancing with the Stars, I’ll never win an Academy Award,” Lillard said. “If...

Matthew Lillard had much, much higher expectations for the infamous 2004 box-office bomb “Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.”
At the time, Lillard had secured the biggest salary of his career to reprise the role of Shaggy for the sequel film. The original live-action/CGI feature “Scooby-Doo” was a massive success in 2002, and the James Gunn-penned film franchise poised Lillard to become an A-list star…or so he thought.
“I thought I’d be No. 1 on the call sheet for the next 10 years of movies,” Lillard told Business Insider. “And the reality was the exact opposite happened.”
Instead, “Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed” forced Lillard to reexamine his career. After appearing in Wes Craven’s “Scream” prior to “Scooby,” Lillard had to decide whether he wanted to be famous or a “great actor,” in a binary sense.

Matthew Lillard thought his career would explode when the success of 2002’s live-action “Scooby-Doo” (the film earned $275 million worldwide) launched a franchise. The actor signed up to reprise the role of Shaggy in 2004’s “Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed” and earned the biggest payday of his career. The only way forward for his career was up. Or so he thought.
“I thought I’d be No. 1 on the call sheet for the next 10 years of movies,” Lillard recently admitted to Business Insider. “And the reality was the exact opposite happened.”
“Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed” was a critical dud and flopped at the box office, failing to cross the $200 million mark worldwide that the original easily cleared. The failure of the “Scooby-Doo” sequel resulted in Lillard’s career coming to a screeching halt and forced him to reprioritize his goals as an actor.

Matthew Lillard would like to return to the 'Scream' franchise - even though his character was supposedly killed off.The 54-year-old actor played the role of Stu in the first installment of the spoof horror franchise and plans to bring his character back to life were "justifiably" shelved following the Columbine High School massacre of 1999 but he still "dreams" that one day he could return. He told MovieWeb: "On 'The Drew Barrymore Show', I said that was Stu was still alive. I don't know anyone who has ever said 'I don't want any part in this franchise ever again!' There's a world in which he is alive. In the third sequel, he was running kids from prison and having kids do horrible things, and the reason that didn't happen was because Columbine High School happened right before we went into production and, justifiably so, they...

These days, James Gunn is known for giving us the "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies and for heading up the new DC Studios over at Warner Bros. As the director gears up to unleash his "Superman" movie, we're all eager to see whether Gunn can finally make DC truly competitive in the superhero movie marketplace, even as audience interest may be waning.
Of course, "Superman" isn't Gunn's first foray into DC territory. Prior to helming DC Studios, his bloody, messy sequel "The Suicide Squad" was well-received even as a day-and-date pandemic release hampered its commercial performance. Meanwhile, his TV series "Peacemaker" was a vulgar, violent masterpiece, and will soon return for a second season that is set to meld DC animation and live-action. Blonde bombshell Pamela Anderson had plenty of opportunities for her net worth to skyrocket throughout her career—spanning from Playboy to Baywatch. However, after a series of financial missteps, failed marriages, and her infamous s*x tape scandal with ex-husband Tommy Lee, Anderson’s net worth shrunk down to a sum that isn’t even close to what it used to be.

Before we proceed to dissect her net worth, let’s learn what it actually means. To simply put, net worth is the total value of what you own (your assets) minus what you owe (your liabilities). So, in the case of the Canada native Pamela Anderson—her humble beginning, followed by her Baywatch appearance, and other ventures—subtracting her debts and unpaid taxes, gives an estimated net worth of $20M.

It always stings when one of our favorite shows is canceled, but it’s also not a good feeling when a streamer or platform keeps a show going when it’s not popular or receives a lot of backlash. When it comes to Mindy Kaling’s Velma, it’s both.
Max has finally officially canceled Mindy Kaling’s Velma and honestly? Good riddance. Sorry not sorry, but it’s time to make way for shows people actually want to see. And the fall season is not the time to fool around, it’s when we expect the most from TV, especially streaming platforms.
Now, don’t get me wrong. The character of Velma was actually my favorite from the animated series Scooby-Doo. While everyone was stanning Daphne, I was all about Velma. I even picked up “jinkies!” and made it one of my go-to phrases. Did that make me cool at school?...

Jinkies indeed! After two divisive seasons, Max won’t be renewing Mindy Kaling’s adult animated series Velma for another season. The show, starring Kaling as the voice of Velma Dinkley, lasted for two seasons before Max ripped off its mask, revealing a cancelation notice where a mustache-twirling villain’s head should be. The cancelation of Velma hits hard for fans of the series who genuinely enjoy Kaling’s unique spin on the Scooby gang and their darkly-themed misadventures.
“Over the past two seasons, Mindy [Kaling] and Charlie [Grandy] have created an incredibly fun and fresh world within the iconic whodunit franchise,” Max said in a statement. “While we won’t be moving forward with another season of the series, we thank them for their compelling coming-of-age storytelling, unrivaled clues, and hilarious hijinks.”

Max has canceled its animated series Velma after two seasons. The show’s second season debuted in April, and a Halloween special that premiered on Oct. 3 marks the final outing for the show.

Five years ago, it was announced that Ben Wheatley would be writing, directing, and executive producing Generation Z, a “hilarious, frightening, and political” series that would consist of six hour-long episodes that would “mix flesh-eating zombies into a story that satirizes how Brexit has divided the UK.” That project didn’t make it into production when it was originally supposed to because of the pandemic shutdown… but after making Meg 2: The Trench (you can read our review at This Link and check out our interview with the filmmaker Here), Wheatley circled back around to Generation Z. The show is now ready to start airing on Channel 4 in October, and in anticipation of the premiere, Empire has unveiled two new images. One can be seen above, and the other can be found at the bottom of this article.

Ben Wheatley is no stranger to shock and gore (try watching Kill List or In The Earth without wincing), societal satire (High-Rise), genre thrills (Free Fire), and sly humour (basically all of his films – even the bleakest ones). And his next project looks set to combine all of those facets – get ready for Generation Z, a flesh-eating horror-comedy series in which the old are quite literally eating the young. All six episodes of the Channel 4 series are written and directed by Wheatley, taking an initial horror pitch from George Faber and spinning it into a gory tale of generational divide.
For Wheatley, it’s a series set to sit alongside one of his most beloved works – the darkly funny, often shocking, definitively British caravan-dwelling killer romp Sightseers. “I was thinking a lot about my own films, because they tentatively fit together,” he tells Empire on set. “Tonally, [tt29540551 autoGeneration Z...

Tim Curry has cemented an indelible legacy with his iconic roles that extend beyond the glitz and glamour of the entertainment world. The Hanna-Barbera cartoons I watched as a kid could be pretty hit-or-miss in terms of quality, both in storytelling and in art. And that includes some of the many entries in the Scooby-Doo franchise. But the first Scooby-Doo series — Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! — was one of the studio’s better efforts, especially when it came to delivering some spooky fun when I watched reruns of the show’s original two seasons after school in the ’70s. There was a Season 3 revival that came to ABC in Fall 1978 that I watched on Saturday mornings during the episodes’ original airings, and they were cool in their own way, but something then and now always drew me back more to the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! seasons, and particularly to the 17 episodes ...

Wcth costars Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith’s new Hallmark Mystery Nelly Knows Mysteries: A Fatal Engagement is very Scooby Doo, not Hope Valley.
What do the two stars who portray Rosemary and Lee Coulter in When Calls The Heart have to say about their first movie together?

Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith are very well-known to Hearties. However, their first Hallmark Mystery will now widen their audience to include Sleuthers. The new movie is Nelly Knows Mysteries: A Fatal Engagement.
The on-screen couple recently spoke to US Magazine about this new mystery. What is clear is that they are not in Hope Valley anymore. However, this movie is very “retro” in its styling. They say it is because of the director David Strasser. But, Pascale explained they are not going back in time like Wcth.

Contrary to what conversion therapy might have you believe, it’s impossible to turn someone gay or bisexual. That is, unless you watched the first “Scooby-Doo” movie at a young, formative age. If that’s the case, then you’re almost definitely bisexual now, even if you don’t know it yet. Sorry you had to find out this way.
Despite giving us this great gift, critics at the time were still pretty harsh on cinema’s first-ever live-action portrayal of Scooby-Doo. “Get out your pooper-scoopers,” warned Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers. “It’s like an amalgam of ‘Ghostbusters,’ ‘Alien’ and the ‘Pokemon’ movies — minus all the good parts,” added Michael O’Sullivan at The Washington Post. Wassup and welcome to IndieWire’s 2000’s Week, our annual summer-time celebration of whichever decade we’re thinking on most fondly this particular season. As we’ve previously done with both the ’80s (rad) and the ’90s (the shiznit), we’re spending this stretch of the dog days of summer looking back on some recent history. Some very recent history, in this case.
Like those previous iterations, this celebration of the best of the early aughts’ cinematic output will kick off with our ranked mega-list of the decade’s 100 greatest films, which we will then follow with interviews with the people who made them, essays about the impact these contemporary classics had on the world at large, close listens of the scores and needle-drops that still reverberate in our ears, and so very much more.
As we’re fond of saying around these parts, if you’re worried about the...

Freddie Prinze Jr. has candidly shared insights into his enduring marriage with Sarah Michelle Gellar, revealing the keys to their relationship’s longevity.
The couple first met on the set of the 1997 film “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and tied the knot in 2002. Reflecting on their two-decade-long marriage, Freddie highlighted essential elements that have contributed to their success.
In 2022, during an appearance on “The Kyle and Jackie O Show,” the 47-year-old actor discussed his marriage, expressing initial hesitations about offering relationship advice. He then shared a unique perspective on why their union has been so successful.
Freddie humorously noted the significance of his culinary skills, saying, “The reason why I think Sarah and I work is because my mom was a chef and I learned how to cook, and I married someone who couldn’t cook. So I’m necessary. She needs me to live and sustain herself.

Warner Bros. Discovery is shuttering its Boomerang streaming service. The Boomerang cable channel will live on.
Boomerang operations will cease on September 30; some of its programming will be integrated into Max, Wbd’s core streaming service. (There is already a decent amount of crossover to begin with.) And that’s exactly where Warner Bros. Discovery will send those Boomerang subscribers. Boomerang members will see their subscription automatically moved to Max’s ad-free tier with no change to their monthly price for a minimum of six months, a person with knowledge of the situation told IndieWire.
Until then, it’s a sweet deal: Boomerang cost $5.99 per month, Max’s ad-free plan is $16.99. Since everything (and we do mean everything) at Wbd is a financial decision, you better believe that $11/month won’t be left on the table for any longer than it feels it has to.

Matthew Lillard has given an update on when we might expect cameras to start rolling for Five Nights At Freddy’s 2, and it’s sooner rather than later.

Unlike a real boomerang, the cartoon-based streaming service is highly unlikely to return.
The end of the line has come for another kid’s streaming service. Boomerang, which specializes in classic cartoons from the libraries of Warner Bros. and Hanna-Barbera such as “Looney Tunes,” “Tom & Jerry,” “Scooby-Doo,” and many others has announced that it will shut down later this year. It’s another move toward streaming consolidation, as its parent company Warner Bros. Discovery is shifting all of its content to its flagship streamer Max.
Key Details: Boomerang will shut down as of Sept. 30. Remaining subscribers will get a partial refund for any service they’ve paid for after that date. Max has a wide lineup of other kids’ content, including reality shows, movies, and more. Sign Up $9.99+ / month Max.com
In an email sent to Boomerang subscribers on Thursday, Wbd said it would be closing down the streamer on Sept.

Television personality Michael Strahan‘s daughter, Isabella Strahan, 19, has reached a significant milestone in her recovery from brain cancer.
In a recent update, Isabella shared that she has recently undergone a procedure to have her chemotherapy port removed, which marks a crucial step in her recovery process.
The USC student, who was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, in October 2023, has undergone several rounds of intensive treatment, which includes chemotherapy and multiple brain surgeries.
Medulloblastoma is the most common type of cancerous brain tumor in children. It starts in the cerebellum, the lower back part of the brain and affects muscle coordination, balance and movement.

After 10 years of waiting, “Edge of Tomorrow 2” may finally be closer to a greenlight.
Director Doug Liman confirmed to Empire magazine that Tom Cruise is still determined to get an “Edge of Tomorrow” sequel made. The film starred Cruise as an army general who, paired with Emily Blunt’s captain, battles an alien invasion. The duo continuously travel 24 hours back in time until they can defeat the extraterrestrials. The Liman-directed 2014 feature was written by Christopher McQuarrie, who went on to direct Cruise in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise.
An “Edge of Tomorrow” sequel was formally announced in 2016 with Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse cowriting. The project resurfaced in 2019 with “The Invention of Lying” co-writer Matthew Robinson handling the script, titled “Live Die Repeat and Repeat,” and Liman directing; however, it, too, was never made.
Liman assured fans that despite the stops and starts, “Edge of Tomorrow 2” will hopefully still happen.

Liman assured fans that despite the stops and starts, “Edge of Tomorrow 2” will hopefully still happen.

Animation has always been a method of storytelling loved by many. It’s something new and different and looks unlike anything else you could see in the real world. This form has come a long way in the last hundred or so years. It was only 96 years ago that ‘Steamboat Willie’ came out and popularized sound cartoons, and look how far we’ve come since. Now, a lot of animation is computer generated, and with some of the technology that companies like Pixar use, it’s getting harder to distinguish animation from real life. So with that, I’d like to take a bit of a step back in time and focus on the cartoons from way back when. Things to do: Subscribe to The Hollywood Insider’s YouTube Channel, by clicking here. Low-cost streaming service Frndly TV has retracted a statement made on social media that it would carry the soon-to-launch retro cartoon channel MeTV Toons when it becomes available in late June.
The statement was made in response to a comment left on Frndly TV’s Facebook page, in which a spokesperson appeared to confirm the streaming service would carry MeTV Toons when it launches on June 25.
“We will be carrying this in our lineup — stay tuned!” the spokesperson said. X-Men ’97 just finished its first season, one of the best things the MCU has ever released. Yet, way back in 1992, Fox Kids almost killed its predecessor before it had a chance to evolve.
In the new documentary special Assembled: X-Men ’97, three of the chief creatives on X-Men: The Animated Series reveal their struggles getting the show off the ground. Producer and director Larry Houston recalls working under Marvel Productions president Margaret Loesch, who always championed the X-Men throughout the ’80s, resulting in misfires like Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends or Pryde of the X-Men but no ongoing series. When Loesch took a role as head of Fox Children’s Network, she brought Houston with her and gave him his shot, with one caveat.
“The folks above her didn’t believe X-Men was gonna do anything,” says writer Julia Lewald, who, along with her husband Eric, worked as a writer on the original show.
