Tony Todd, an actor who played the killer in Candyman and appeared in the Final Destination franchise and Platoon among more than 240 film and TV credits spanning 40 years, died November 6 at his home in Los Angeles. He was 69.

His reps confirmed the news to Deadline but did not provide a cause of death.

Born on December 4, 1954, in Washington, D.C., Todd pursued acting at the Eugene O’Neill National Actors Theatre Institute and Trinity Rep Conservatory, where he honed his skills and developed his commanding style. Among his first screen roles was playing the heroin-addicted Sergeant Warren in Oliver Stone’s Best Picture Oscar-winning Vietnam War classic Platoon.

According to Davey Cummings, a background artist on Mindy Kaling's animated Max original "Velma," the show will not return for a third season.

Over on Instagram, Cummings posted some of his work from the upcoming "Velma" Halloween special before revealing something huge. "Backgrounds I painted for Velma Halloween Special," he wrote alongside a carousel post of different spooky backdrops. "So fun working with this crew. Warner Bros. Discovery is shuttering its Boomerang streaming service. The Boomerang cable channel will live on.

Boomerang operations will cease on September 30; some of its programming will be integrated into Max, Wbd’s core streaming service. (There is already a decent amount of crossover to begin with.) And that’s exactly where Warner Bros. Discovery will send those Boomerang subscribers. Boomerang members will see their subscription automatically moved to Max’s ad-free tier with no change to their monthly price for a minimum of six months, a person with knowledge of the situation told IndieWire.

Until then, it’s a sweet deal: Boomerang cost $5.99 per month, Max’s ad-free plan is $16.99. Since everything (and we do mean everything) at Wbd is a financial decision, you better believe that $11/month won’t be left on the table for any longer than it feels it has to.

Zoinks! After more than seven years, Boomerang, the cartoon streaming service from Warner Bros. Discovery, is shutting down as a standalone service.

Boomerang will be shut down next month, and its catalog of shows — including “Scooby-Doo,” “Looney Tunes,” “Tom and Jerry,” “The Flintstones,” “Courage the Cowardly Dog” and more — will become part of Max. “As of September 30, 2024, the Boomerang app and website will no longer be available,” the service says in a notice on its customer website.

“Starting September 30, you can watch fan-favorite Boomerang shows alongside Max’s full catalog of iconic series, hit movies, fresh originals, breaking news, and family favorites including ‘The Amazing World of Gumball,’ ‘Teen Titans Go!,’ ‘Lego Batman’ and more!” Boomerang says in the customer notice.

As of next month, most Boomerang subscribers will be migrated to Wbd’s Max ad-free tier, retaining their current subscription price for a minimum of six months. Currently, Boomerang costs $5.99/month,...

The end of the line has come for another kid’s streaming service. In a recent update, Isabella shared that she has recently undergone a procedure to have her chemotherapy port removed, which marks a crucial step in her recovery process.

The USC student, who was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, in October 2023, has undergone several rounds of intensive treatment, which includes chemotherapy and multiple brain surgeries.

Medulloblastoma is the most common type of cancerous brain tumor in children. It starts in the cerebellum, the lower back part of the brain and affects muscle coordination, balance and movement.

After 10 years of waiting, “Edge of Tomorrow 2” may finally be closer to a greenlight.

Director Doug Liman confirmed to Empire magazine that Tom Cruise is still determined to get an “Edge of Tomorrow” sequel made. The film starred Cruise as an army general who, paired with Emily Blunt’s captain, battles an alien invasion. The duo continuously travel 24 hours back in time until they can defeat the extraterrestrials. The Liman-directed 2014 feature was written by Christopher McQuarrie, who went on to direct Cruise in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise.

An “Edge of Tomorrow” sequel was formally announced in 2016 with Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse cowriting. The project resurfaced in 2019 with “The Invention of Lying” co-writer Matthew Robinson handling the script, titled “Live Die Repeat and Repeat,” and Liman directing; however, it, too, was never made.

Liman assured fans that despite the stops and starts, “Edge of Tomorrow 2” will hopefully still happen.

This form has come a long way in the last hundred or so years. It was only 96 years ago that ‘Steamboat Willie’ came out and popularized sound cartoons, and look how far we’ve come since. Warner Bros. Animation wants to expand its programming by creating new spin-offs of popular existing properties like Adventure Time, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and Scooby-Doo. While most are set to air on Cartoon Network, some do not have a specified home yet. These new series include Adventure Time: Side Quests, Foster's Funtime for Imaginary Friends, and Go-Go Mystery Machine.

In addition to a brand new live action series in the works at Netflix, another new Scooby-Doo animated series is also coming soon from Warner Bros., Variety reports this morning.

This next animated series from the long-running property is titled “Go-Go Mystery Machine,“ and it’s being described as a spinoff series that will take the gang to Japan.

Here’s the official synopsis for the upcoming series: “While visiting Japan on the ultimate foodie adventure, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo unwittingly unleash hundreds of mischievous mythical monsters that are now causing trouble all over the country.”

“Scooby turns to his uncle, Daisuke-Doo, and magical friend Etsuko and gadget wiz Toshiro to help solve the mystery and catch the monsters,” the synopsis provided this week continues.

“Go-Go Mystery Machine” is in the works for the Cartoon Network.

Wallet-conscious streaming TV service Frndly TV says it will offer Weigel Broadcasting’s new retro cartoon channel MeTV Toons when the network launches later this month.

The announcement was made in an email sent to some customers and business partners on Wednesday, and comes about a week after Frndly TV accidentally told a subscriber on Facebook that the channel would debut on the service.

“You’ve been asking for it, so we’re adding MeTV Toons to the Frndly TV lineup!” the email sent on Wednesday said, adding that viewers will be able to “catch all the classic cartoons on this new channel, coming soon!”

MeTV Toons is growing out of a retro cartoon block that airs weekends on MeTV. Shows like “Betty Boop,” “Scooby Doo,” “Huckleberry Hound,” “Tom & Jerry,” “Top Cat” and “Speed Racer” are listed among some of the shows that...

Lillard, who played Shaggy in the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo film and was originally given the voiceover job after Casey Kasem’s retirement, will return to the role in a new interactive Scooby-Doo experience currently under development. Low-cost streaming service Frndly TV has retracted a statement made on social media that it would carry the soon-to-launch retro cartoon channel MeTV Toons when it becomes available in late June.

The statement was made in response to a comment left on Frndly TV’s Facebook page, in which a spokesperson appeared to confirm the streaming service would carry MeTV Toons when it launches on June 25.

“We will be carrying this in our lineup — stay tuned!” the spokesperson said. Hours later, an official with Frndly TV followed up in a series of Facebook messages saying the affirmation was made in error, and that the streaming service could not comment on whether it will carry MeTV Toons at launch.

Frndly TV is one of two streaming TV platforms that carries channels from Weigel Broadcasting, the media company developing MeTV Toons.

X-Men ’97 just finished its first season, one of the best things the MCU has ever released. Yet, way back in 1992, Fox Kids almost killed its predecessor before it had a chance to evolve.

In the new documentary special Assembled: X-Men ’97, three of the chief creatives on X-Men: The Animated Series reveal their struggles getting the show off the ground. Producer and director Larry Houston recalls working under Marvel Productions president Margaret Loesch, who always championed the X-Men throughout the ’80s, resulting in misfires like Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends or Pryde of the X-Men but no ongoing series. When Loesch took a role as head of Fox Children’s Network, she brought Houston with her and gave him his shot, with one caveat.

“The folks above her didn’t believe X-Men was gonna do anything,” says writer Julia Lewald, who, along with her husband Eric, worked as a writer on the original show.
