This Flemish sitcom is about the intertwined private and professional life of René Verschoten, a dodgy independent garage-manager who stops at nothing to gain or save money. He considers his wife Magda, who dreams of socialite standing but is never at the height of her service-club friend Hélène, and son (hence the title) Sven -who leaves the series rather soon- essentially as financial drains, but also involves them in his dubious, usually back-firing schemes, as well as his staff: Kristof, a very zealous but dumb mechanic, his secretary, cleaning lady and general household help Conny and after Sven's departure in-living cousin and lazy mechanic Kevin.

One of the background- magazines on different days of the week, all aired by the Flemish public broadcast VRT at a late hour (hence the common first part of the title, Dutch for 'Late Edition'), in this case devoted to the socio-economical life in Belgium and internationally, trying to look beyond the day-to-day news on markets etc. to business - and policy trends, market players, institutions, rules and mechanisms etc. as such.

Sven boasts babes lie at his feet, but it's ugly Connie who gets invited to dinner in the posh restaurant by rich architect Jean-Pierre, but fearing he'll reject her poor roots, pretends being a regular customer and bribes the Verschotens to play his parents, while in fact he seeks honesty, which she thus messes up worse then the dinner. René keeps selling patched-up old tires, even decides converting the land next to his workshop into a 'tire center', but has no building permit, so tries to dinner-bribe municipal official De Simpelaere, which turns awkward for both.

All Star Opera blends genres on the Dick's Live Stage with a level of energy that is hard to match.
