Written by Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer, who penned Steven Soderbergh’s Unsane, the film centers on Cochran’s Ally Braun, an adopted 16-year-old with a mysterious illness who learns her bio-tech billionaire parents (Dastmalchian and Greene) are harvesting her blood for nefarious purposes.

“Dead Money” is a thrilling story set in the high-stakes world of underground poker. It combines the suspense of gambling with the mystery of crime. The film, which came out in 2024, is about a professional poker player named Andy (Emile Hirsch) whose life becomes very dangerous after a fairly normal game in the back room goes wrong.

The film, written and directed by Josh Wilcox, examines the very thin line between taking a measured risk and being desperate. Walpole builds a story around Andy, a skilled but suffering poker player who is in a lot of debt and always looking for that one big win that will make everything better. When Jack’s (David Keith) home poker game is taken, Andy finds a chance that he didn’t expect, which starts a dangerous chain of events.

The film’s diverse cast gives this high-wire act of a story more depth.

Bau: Artist at War, a Holocaust feature that stars Emile Hirsch as real-life artist Joseph Bau, has landed a theatrical release for early next year.

The historical drama film from director Sean McNamara (Reagan) is set to hit theaters Jan. 24, 2025, with distribution from Showbiz Direct and Republic Pictures. Emile Hirsch isn’t mincing words when it comes to his scrapped John Belushi biopic.

Back in 2013, Hirsch was cast to portray the late comedian and “Saturday Night Live” star. However, the lack of funding led to the project falling apart.

Now, Hirsch is revealing the misguided advice he claims the director gave him before the film was even greenlit.

“I was a little bit torn [about signing on],” Hirsch said during THR‘s “It Happened in Hollywood” podcast. “I had a conversation with the director at one point, and he was talking about the weight gain. This is how stupid this guy was: He was like, ‘Just gain the weight and then we’ll make the movie.’”

Kale Culley, best known for his portrayal of August Walker on The CW’s Jared Padalecki-led Walker series, has signed with Lbi Entertainment for expanded representation.

The Texas actor played the son of Cordell Walker (Padalecki) over four seasons. As a child actor, Culley’s first gig was in 6 Below: Miracle on the Mountain, the sports thriller that starred Josh Hartnett and Mira Sorvino.

That was followed by roles in the CBS family drama Me, Myself and I and working alongside director Matthew Weiner and Diane Lane in Amazon’s The Romanoffs. He also portrayed Little Will in Peel, opposite Emile Hirsch.

The couple will be honored at the nonprofit’s fourth annual gala, set to take place at the L.A. home of Ted Sarandos and Nicole Avant on Oct. 24. The Levys are longtime champions of the organization, which works to prevent homelessness by creating first homes and a community for youth aging out of the foster care system. Their support is said to have been vital in furthering A Sense of Home’s work.

Would you gain 100 pounds in the hopes of landing a role?

That was the career conundrum faced by Emile Hirsch, who joined THR‘s It Happened in Hollywood podcast to relive the making of his 2007 breakout film, Into the Wild.

But another film — a planned biopic of comedian John Belushi, in which Hirsch was chosen to play the early Saturday Night Live star — came up in conversation.

In 2013, Hirsch became attached to the lead role in the indie biopic. The funding never came together, and the project fell apart.

“I was a little bit torn [about signing on],” Hirsch, 39, recalls. “I had a conversation with the director at one point, and he was talking about the weight gain. This is how stupid this guy was: He was like, ‘Just gain the weight and then we’ll make the movie.’

“And I’m like, ‘Gain the weight and then we’ll make the movie?...

“All a good player wants is profit,” says Andy (Emile Hirsch) at the start of Luc Walpoth’s gritty little poker thriller. He explains, in voiceover, how it really all comes down to calculations, to maths – and, of course, the human factor. He’s proud of his professionalism, of his sensible approach, his resistance to temptation. But Andy is full of shit. India Eisley and Emile Hirsch in Dead Money

Opening in US cinemas this weekend, Dead Money is the latest film starring Emile Hirsch, whose combination of Hollywood hits and gutsy independent thrillers has won him an extensive fan following. Here, he plays Andy, a small time professional poker player who, together with girlfriend Chloe (India Eisley), finds himself in deep water after helping himself to a large sum of money belonging to a gang who stole from him. It’s a film which was personally interesting to the actor because, as he explains when he meet, he plays a bit of poker himself.

“I would say I had a loose interest in poker before the movie,” he says. “I was a terrible player. I would lose and just quit for years at a time. And so when I got the script, I was sort of like, ‘This could be a way to play again.

For ten years, we as moviegoers were treated to both the rise and fall of the DC Extended Universe, or Decu for short (read our rankings here). The rise began with the release of Man of Steel in 2013, directed by Zack Snyder, marking the start of an ambitious plan to create a shared cinematic universe featuring iconic DC Comics characters. Exclusive: Chicago Fire newcomer Jocelyn Hudon has been upped to series regular beginning Season 13, sources tell Deadline.

Hudon joined the Season 12 cast in April as Lyla Novak, a new paramedic at Firehouse 51 who at first loves freelancing but reluctantly agrees to join Violet (Hanako Greensmith) as an official part of the team. In a short time, Lyla has proven to be an integral member of the paramedics with leadership skills that will go far at 51. She also realizes that standing still and being part of something big feels pretty nice, too.

Two works from the early queer literary canon will see audiobook release this June, narrated by actor Emile Hirsch.

Both were authored by Fritz Peters, an overlooked trailblazer in the 1950s who wrote frank and intimate depictions of homosexuality, spirituality and mental health struggles. The books are the novel “Finistère” and the memoir “Boyhood With Gurdjieff,” hitting audio platforms in time for global pride celebrations.

The recordings mark Hirsch’s first in the space, save voicing a character in “Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans,” the animated film from Guillermo del Toro. Known for films like “Into the Wild” and “Milk,” he will next appear in the holocaust film “‘Bau, Artist at War.”

Despite selling big in his time, Peters’ catalogue had fallen into relative obscurity compared to literati peers like Gore Vidal, Henry Miller and Eudora Welty. Production company Hirsch Giovanni acquired the author’s complete works two years ago and serve as re-release publishers.

Exclusive: Bleiberg Entertainment has picked up worldwide rights to Degenerate, a crime pic starring Emile Hirsch (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and Rory Culkin (Signs, Scream 4).

If there’s ever a movie from the late 2000s deserving of its reevaluation, might we thrust Speed Racer to the front? A dizzying piece of pop that zooms like an acid trip through the world of racing and anime, the movie just did not connect with audiences…outside of those actively under a certain kind of influence, at least. To say it went under the radar – taking in $44 million domestically on a $120 million budget – would be an understatement, but it has gained a lot traction in the 15+ years since its release, taking on a cult status that was sort of always there underneath the rubble.

Very sad news today as it’s been reported that M. Emmet Walsh has died at the age of 88. No matter the size of the role, the prolific character actor always made a unique impression throughout his long career, which spanned six decades.

M. Emmet Walsh is best known for playing Bryant in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, the captain of the Los Angeles Police Department who tasks Deckard with tracking down the replicants at the beginning of the film. He told THR that the cast and crew weren’t quite sure what the make of the movie when they first saw it. “I don’t know if I really understood what in the hell it was all about,” Walsh said. “We all sat there and it ended. And nothing. We didn’t know what to say or to think or do! We didn’t know what in the hell we had done!

Actor Ryan Phillippe shared his experience on the set of his new action thriller film Prey.

Phillippe revealed what about the film he originally connected with. “The idea of being on this plane that goes down in a reserve, for big prey, for big game, it just captured my imagination pretty immediately,” Phillippe told uInterview founder Erik Meers, who first interviewed the actor for the cover of Paper magazine in 2001.

He continued, “You know, I like survival movies, and I felt like this was one where any of us could put ourselves in that situation, mentally, and it’s terrifying, you know, and so it was a really easy sell in regards to what the idea of the movie was, and I like that a lot of times, I think that in its simplicity there is relatability to that because you can imagine what if it happened to you, or whatever.

Yesterday, an image cinematographer Christian Sebaldt shared on Instagram indicated that Final Destination 6 (which is going by the title Final Destination: Bloodlines) is finally, after years of development and a thirteen year gap between sequels, heading into production. Now franchise producer Craig Perry has taken to social media to confirm that Final Destination: Bloodlines is indeed filming, the aim being to get this one into theatres in 2025 – in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of the original film.
