After one year from the project for an archive of emerging artists, Sottobosco presents My Favourite Things. The artists, who joined the archive until today, will present themselfs to the Galleria Contemporaneo space.
The artists are asked to choose, for the first Sottobosco collective exibition, the works that most represents their artistic practice. My Favourite Things is the result of a work started in 2009 to develop an archive configured, for dimensions and contents, like a selections of research and sperimentation oriented italian artists.

The Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Education" unequivocally states that this law in the normative-legal base defines the level of education in the country, and that the standards are a state requirement and the quality i formed in relation to it. Inevitably, in order to implement these activities on a more purposeful and scientific-pedagogical basis, there is a need to explain the concept of quality in education in a pedagogical way. Based on the research of scientists, it is possible to conclude that the quality of education in general, including general education, which plays a decisive role in the formation of the human personality, is distinguished by the expression of its integrity and status as a social phenomenon. The quality of education has always made society think at different times and encouraged activities to improve it. Of course, the position in these approaches has always been the same, and the education policy has played a role in its direction.

WiMAX Cellular Networks with Multi-hop Relays(MR), standardized as IEEE 802.16j networks, have been  proposed for the improvement of overall throughput by providing last mile high speed broadband service to the users. The scheduling algorithm at Base Station(BS) plays a vital role in optimal resource allocation.  In Queue aware scheduling, Concurrent Transmission Scenarios(CTS) are identified based on high back  pressure links, which are used as input for linear programming model that determines the transmission schedules to maximize the overall throughput with simultaneous transmissions over Independent Links(IL).  As shown in the results of Queue aware scheduling algorithm, the increase in the number of Concurrent Transmission Scenarios, improves the throughput and reaches a steady state after a level because of the limited number of independent links. In this paper, the installation of Directional Antennas at Base Station(BS), Relay Stations(RS) is proposed and studied the impact of increase in independent links, so as the concurrent scenarios with Directional Antennas, and observed some improvement in throughput. Simulation results showed that the proposed Queue aware scheduling with Directional Antennas outperforms even when the Mobile Stations(MSs) are at the edge of the cell coverage.

We survey the relationship between government and science (concentrating on the situation in the U.S.). We discuss the theoretical rationale for government funding, showing that it is open to serious question – its model of science as market is highly suspect, and its implications for the remedial effects of intervention do not stand up to even casual empirical scrutiny. Calling attention to the nakedness of the standard economic rationale, however, does not touch the very real political rationales, and it is the interaction of these with the understandably strong desire of scientists to be well-funded to which we direct attention. We describe various ways in which government funding can interact with scientists and scientific activity to produce the unanticipated effects that concern us.

SUMMARY We survey the relationship between government and science (concentrating on the situation in the U.S.). I very much enjoyed reading this book, but I should make a couple of “declarations of interest” at the outset. Daniels uses an aspect of my own work (A Whited Sepulchre, 2009) in her discussion of the “multiplicity of voices” in autobiographical documentary (69−73), and, as implied by this, we share a background as independent filmmakers with an interest in both autobiographical documentary and in Practice Research in the Academy. So, perhaps unsurprisingly, I found it a completely fascinating and thought-provoking read. Taken as a whole, the book gives both an intimate portrait of a particular filmmaker’s struggle to make work, and a very clear picture of the contexts (personal, industrial and intellectual) in which that work was produced.

Indonesia is an agrarian country, second most biodiverse in the world after Brazil. But some of it has disappeared as a result of development. The purpose of this article is to look at the existence of traditional rice farming culture and its propagation in Indonesia. The research borrows from Foucault’s theory of power and uses qualitative descriptive methods for analysis. Both primary (observations, interviews) and secondary (documents) data have been used in this research. The study finds that for 50 years the knowledge of traditional rice farming that was suitable with the natural environment of the land and its culture has been in contestation with knowledge of farming with synthetic chemical (inorganic) materials. Results from a multiple baseline with changing conditions design across high school students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) indicated that the students increased the percentage of independent work they completed in their general education biology class after learning tactile-cued self-monitoring. Students maintained high percentages for completed work when the rate of tactile cues was faded from 1 per minute to 1 every 5 minutes, as well as when all tactile cues were withdrawn during a short-term maintenance phase. Moreover, the students increased their correctly completed work from percentages substantially lower than the mean of their classmates to percentages that matched and surpassed the mean of their classmates. Qualitative data indicated that the participants and their co-teachers approved of the tactile-cued self-monitoring procedures. Never has the domino theory been so fascinating to observe in action. Initiated in Tunisia at the end of 2010, the movement that shook the Arab world spread to Egypt then to Libya, Bahrain, Yemen, and Syria. The peoples rid Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya of their dictators, and even where they still suffer violent suppression, a point of no-return has been reached. The Palestinians, for their part, did not so much rebel against their leaders from Fatah or Hamas, although they had good reasons for doing so, but they rallied behind the claim for an independent state. As for Israel, it looked at those developments with mixed feelings of fear and scepticism. It may have to face losing the Egyptian government as a strong ally, regional instability, or takeover by hostile Islamist radicals. Its worst nightmare would be that support from western countries to the Arab revolutions deepen its isolation.
But Israel was not spared either by the wind of change blowing on North Africa and the Middle East. Its population did not revolt to overthrow its political system. Israel still rightly considers itself as the only democracy in the region. Some even call it “hyperdemocracy” or democrazy. Indeed, its parliamentary regime based on full proportional representation allows any sector or lobby to be voted in the Knesset. Thus such a group having joined the government coalition, even as ultra-minority, is in a position to threaten the cabinet of causing its overthrow if its demands are not met. This is how the West Bank and East Jerusalem settlers lobby, hardly representing half a million people, but supported by a handful of members of Parliament, determine the policy of a country of 7.7 million. This system dates back to the establishment of the State in 1948. It corresponds to the great diversity of Israeli society, a fact often overlooked in the West and in the Arab world, content with a more homogeneous image.
What did the Israeli “Indignated” then rebel against? Mainly against growing poverty and cost of living, especially for housing, as well as social exclusion resulting from a neoliberal policy to which Benyamin Netanyahu attached his name as Prime Minister (1996-1999 and since 2009) but above all as Finance Minister (2002-2005). That policy consisted in gradually substituting the welfare state put into place by the Labour governments with an oligarchy dominated by large conglomerates owned by tycoons or big families. For instance, the Super- Sol group now has 40 percent of market share in retail trade, and it can decide alone on retail prices. The Tnuva dairy company holds 52 percent of the market. Finance is in the hands of five main banks agreeing to maintain high service fees and interest rates. Movements of boycott against those companies, supported by street demonstrations launched on Facebook and occupation of public places by hundreds of thousands of Israelis, forced them to yield to the pressure.
The Prime Minister had to promise the construction of 40,000 new affordable housing units. The committee that he appointed under the chairmanship of economist Manuel Trachtenberg recommended a set of measures, among others on competition, taxation, free preschool education, the price of basic goods, and public transport for young people. Some of those measures in fact go even farther in the dismantlement of the welfare state: wage cuts and restrictions on trade unions in the state monopolies (power and water distribution, railways, ports, etc.). Moreover, in order to alleviate the burden of social spending, employment of the ultrareligious Israelis who now live on state allowances will be encouraged. In order to fund this programme, the committee proposed cuts in the sacrosanct defence budget, which reaches 16.3 billion euros (i.e. 15 percent of the state budget and 6.3 percent of GDP). In this work, a flexible and extensive digital platform for Smart Homes is presented, exploiting the most advanced technologies of the Internet of Things, such as Radio Frequency Identification, wearable electronics, Wireless Sensor Networks, and Artificial Intelligence. Thus, the main novelty of the paper is the system-level description of the platform flexibility allowing the interoperability of different smart devices. This research was developed within the framework of the operative project HABITAT (Home Assistance Based on the Internet of Things for the Autonomy of Everybody), aiming at developing smart devices to support elderly people both in their own houses and in retirement homes, and embedding them in everyday life objects, thus reducing the expenses for healthcare due to the lower need for personal assistance, and providing a better life quality to the elderly users.

Background & Objective: Adult granulosa cell tumors (AGCTs) are potentially malignant ovarian neoplasms with a well-known tendency for local spread and recurrence, years after prolonged follow-up. This study investigated the immunohistochemical (IHC) expression of SMAD3 (mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 3) in AGCTs to evaluate its association with a number of confirmed AGCT prognostic variables. Materials & Methods: Upon database search, the clinicopathological data, slides, and paraffin blocks of 35 AGCTs were retrospectively retrieved from archives, then examined histopathologically, staged, and stained immunohistochemically using anti-SMAD3. After H scoring of "SMAD3", the clinicopathological associations were investigated in positive-and negative-SMAD3 expression groups using appropriate statistical methods. Regression analysis was performed to define independent predictors of recurrence in AGCT. Results: SMAD3 was actively expressed in the nuclei of 51.4% of AGCTs. It was significantly associated with tumor recurrence, capsular rupture, and size (P=0.011, 0.018, and 0.028, respectively), but not with age, presentation, laterality, stage, tumor morphological pattern, or mitotic index. Capsular rupture and tumor size were defined as highly significant (P≤0.001), as well as SMAD3+ve expression and FIGO stage as significant independent predictors of recurrence (P=0.05 and 0.049, respectively) in AGCT. Conclusion: SMAD3 is actively expressed in the tumor cell nuclei of around one half of AGCTs and this expression associates with high propensity for tumor recurrence, capsular rupture, and increasing tumor size. Along with the other observed independent predictors of recurrence, SMAD3 may provide an outline to direct discovery of new risk-stratification criteria as well as therapeutic targets for AGCTs.

Trust in business and many companies is at a low level. If investors, customers, employees and other stakeholders are sceptical and sometimes feel disadvantaged because ambiguous material has been issued or relevant information has been concealed from them, questions should be asked as to whether board members have exercised the degree of independent judgement and scepticism expected of a competent director. Individually and collectively they may need to do more to critique board papers, question assumptions and challenge proposals with a greater degree of detachment, objectivity and healthy scepticism, Examines differing perceptions of reality and how to critique, raise sensitive issues, understand boardroom games and escalation options, be wary of fashions and fads and deal with conflict in the boardroom. Directors need to make time available and board chairs have an important role to play in ensuring scepticism and challenge and building trust.

Linklater's independent and studio films reflect the changed relationship between these spheres, while pursuing a utopian quest for alternatives to purely physical consumer gratification.

Will Palestinians be emboldened to mimic these revolts and collectively decide to embark on another intifada?
