This week the Michigan Gaming Control Board announced that they've filed a cease-and-desist order against OC Media Holdings, a sweepstakes company that the regulator says is offering online services to customers in the Wolverine State.
The company was found to have been offering services under the brand One Country Give to Michiganders through an anonymous tip, which led to an investigation. This led to the MGCB giving OC Media Holdings a cease-and-desist letter, as providing online lotteries or raffles is illegal in Michigan.
"The Michigan Gaming Control Board will not, and does not, tolerate activities that circumvent our laws and threaten the integrity of the highly regulated gaming industry in Michigan," said Michigan Gaming Control Board Executive Director Henry Williams. "We are committed to upholding state law to ensure a fair and honest gaming environment for all Michigan citizens, and we will keep issuing cease-and-desist letters and taking appropriate legal actions to halt illegal gaming in the state of Michigan."
OC Media Holdings has fourteen days to block access to Michigan residents on its site and social media platforms or else they'll face legal consequences, which could include fines or even criminal charges.
No comment from the company was available at press time.
