Online sportsbetting group Fanatics Betting and Gaming has been hit with a $15,000 fine by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission for allowing a gambler to place a bet on an in-state collegiate game.
Currently, in-state collegiate bets are illegal in the state, as the regulator is trying to avoid match-fixing and harassment of non-professional athletes. The bet in question was a low-stakes parlay bet worth $2 that included a Massachusetts basketball team. The exact team in question wasn't named.
The state's gaming board unanimously approved of the fine in a 4-0 vote, with the operator agreeing to pay the fee.
This marks the second fine for Fanatics in two months, as the company was fined in Tennessee for allowing excluded players to bet on their site.
