Kindred Gets Swedish Fine Reduced to SEK30 Million

Gaming operator Kindred Group has seen its Swedish fine reduced for the second time, as the Administrative Court of Appeal in Jönköping has lowered the penalty amount to SEK 30 million from the SEK 100 million that was initially ordered in 2020.

The company was fined through its Spooniker subsidiary for offering lotteries and unauthorised bonuses in the country. Swedish law only permits operators to offer sign-up bonuses, but it was found that various Kindred brand such as Storspelare, Maria Casino, and Unibet were providing other types of bonuses. Some of the group's bingo brands also had loyalty systems in place, which are also illegal.

Kindred has been fighting the penalty since it was imposed, and the same court cut the penalty in half in 2021 to SEK50 million. This wasn't good enough for Kindred, which appealed a second time and got the lower amount.

Neither Kindred nor gaming regulator Spelinspektionen has issued comment as of press time, but we'll be updating readers as we learn more.
