Aspire Global Fined By Swedish Regulator

This story was published more than 5 years ago.

This week it was announced that gaming group Aspire Global has been fined SEK 3 million by the country's regulator Spelinspektionen for not complying with Sweden's self-exclusion rules.

The company reportedly did not follow the rules of keeping self-excluded gamblers from accessing its betting products, a problem that has occurred with other betting groups in recent times such as Ladbrokes and Casumo. Aspire's AG Communications subsidiary is claiming that they've experienced technical faults that were expected to be fixed in January. This took longer than expected, and even then, the group still allowed self-excluded gamblers to gamble.

Spelinspektionen could have suspended Aspire's license, but instead opted for the fine as the company has been working directly with regulators to resolve the issues. There are more than 30,000 people who've signed up to self-exclude on the Spelpaus.se domain, and operators are obligated to block access to registering accounts tied in with those identities.

AG Communications has an assortment of brands that it is offering in Sweden and around the globe, including Karamba, Hopa, Mr Play, Goliath Casino, Spinson, Magic Red Casino, Toptally, Barbados Casino, Lanadas, Casino Luck, Viking Slots, Prime Slots, and SlotJerry.

Needless to say, the hefty fine will hurt Aspire's bottom line, but it they claim to have resolved the issues and will hopefully have smooth sailing moving ahead.

It sounds to me that the technical issues they've complained about is just an excuse...but I guess they'd be in hurry to fix that now after that really huge fine they'll have to face, SEK 3 million = ~$320250.
