Abstract
Onthophagus pragtig Deschodt, new species is described and illustrated from South Africa. Its known collection localities are shown. We also briefly describe and illustrate three distinct subgroups in the18th Onthophagus group of d’Orbigny (1913) and further provide a checklist of the known species in this group while dividing them into these subgroups where known.

Abstract
A new dung beetle genus and species is described and pictured following its recent discovery on a farm in South Africa. Hathor spinosa Deschodt, new species belongs to the subfamily Scarabaeinae, tribe Onthophagini Streubel, 1846, it shows a unique set of characters. A map is provided to show the type locality of the new genus and species that has a putative association with ants.

In November 2023, Deschodt & Sole (2023) proposed the new genus-group name Hathor Deschodt for a peculiar, putatively ant-associated onthophagine dung beetle from Gauteng province, South Africa. The genus is as yet known only from the female holotype of the species Hathor spinosa Deschodt, 2023. It was overlooked that the new generic name is preoccupied by Hathor Kirkaldy & Edwards, 1902, as regulated by the Principle of Homonymy (Articles 52–60 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature [henceforth the Code, Anonymous 1999]). Hathor Kirkaldy & Edwards is a monotypic genus of red bug or cotton stainer (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pyrrhocoroidea: Pyrrhocoridae) from tropical Africa, itself a junior subjective synonym of Sericocoris Karsch, 1892. Sericocoris is currently a valid genus (Robertson 2004; Stehlík & Jindra 2011).

Abstract
Bothynus sartorei Ratcliffe & Cave sp. nov. is described as a new species from Arani, Cochabamba, Bolivia. The new species is compared with the similar B. minor Steinheil from Argentina and B. nyx Ratcliffe from Bolivia. A description, diagnosis for distinguishing the species, illustrations, and a distribution map are provided for the new species. A key to the Bolivian species of Bothynus Hope is presented.

[Entomology • 2024] Kibakoganea unnahachotei • On the Genus Kibakoganea Nagai, 1984 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Rutelinae) in Thailand

Abstract
In this study, a new species Kibakoganea unnahachotei sp. nov. is described. Additionally, a new junior synonym of Kibakoganea akikoae Hirasawa, 1992 = Kibakoganea akikoae satoi Nagai, 2004 syn. nov. is proposed. Including the new species, genus Kibakoganea Nagai, 1984 currently comprises 18 species globally, and three species are recorded from Thailand. The habitus, some behavioral notes, and key to species of Kibakoganea from Thailand are given herein.

Kibakoganea unnahachotei Hongsuwong and Pathomwattananurak, sp. nov.

Differential diagnosis. Kibakoganea was arranged into three main species groups based on the structures of the aedeagus (Do 2013). K. unnahachotei is placed in the species group with parameres symmetric and apical part not separated. Among them, K. yoshitomii Nagai, 2004 from Northern Laos and K. costata Muramoto & Kobayashi, 2019 from India showed the most resemblance but could be distinguished with the characteristic listed in Table 1.

Etymology. The specific epithet “unnahachotei” is named after a Thai entomologist, Thornthan Unnahachote, who has consistently been a valuable collaborator and has provided assistance during our entomological surveys.

[Entomology • 2020] Bulasconotus scaccarius • A New Species of cylindrical Bark Beetle (Coleoptera: Zopheridae: Colydiinae) from Vanuatu establishes in Hawaii

Abstract
We describe Bulasconotus scaccarius sp. nov.a new species of cylindrical bark beetle (Zopheridae: Colydiinae: Synchitini), elevating the number of described species in its genus to two. Despite discovering this species in Hawaii, we suspect, based on collections and survey data, that it is endemic to the South Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu and has only recently arrived in Hawaii. Evidence of the diet of closely related genera indicates that the new species may be a predator of ambrosia beetles (Curculionidae: Scolytinae), conceivably posing a risk to those that are endemic to Hawaii.

Bulasconotus scaccarius sp. nov.

Etymology. The specific epithet is the adjective form of the nominative singular noun scaccarium, meaning a chessboard, in reference to the chequered pattern on the elytra. This name thereby conforms to article 11.9.1.1 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. Because the adjective suffix agrees with the masculinity of the generic name, the binomial name also conforms to article 31.2 even though the eponym is neuter.

Abstract
Paleotropical clades with largely disjunct distributions are ideal models for biogeographic reconstructions. The dung beetle genera Grebennikovius Mlambo, Scholtz & Deschodt, Epactoides Olsouffief and Ochicanthon Vaz-de-Mello are distributed in Tanzania, Madagascar and Réunion, and the Oriental region, respectively. We combine morphology and molecular dataset to reconstruct the phylogenetic relationships between these taxa. Our analyses corroborate previous hypotheses of monophyly of the group, which is here described as new tribe Epactoidini trib. nov. Grebennikovius is recovered as sister to Epactoides, while Ochicanthon emerges as sister to them both. The disjunct distribution of our focal clade is unusual within the subfamily Scarabaeinae. Bayesian divergence time estimates and ancestral range reconstructions indicate an African origin of the crown group of the tribe Epactoidini trib. nov. in the early mid Eocene, ca. 46 Ma. The divergence between Epactoides and its sister is dated to 32.3 Ma, while the crown age for the genus Ochicanthon is dated to 27 Ma. We investigate the factors that may have shaped the current distribution of the tribe Epactoidini trib. nov. The formation of the Gomphotherium landbridge, along with favourable environmental conditions would have allowed dry-intolerant organisms, such as Ochicanthon, to disperse out of Africa. Remarkable climatic stability of the Eastern Arc Mountains was critical for the retention of the monotypic genus Grebennikovius. We suggest two subsequent overwater dispersal events: the migration of the most recent common ancestor (MRCA) of Epactoides from Africa to Madagascar (32.3–29.5 Ma); the lately dispersal of the MRCA of the today's extinct Epactoides giganteus Rossini, Vaz-de-Mello & Montreuil to Réunion island from Madagascar (3.4 Ma). We suggest that the high potential of dispersal of Epactoidini trib. nov. dung beetles and the strict association to forest habitat might have triggered two major radiations, one in Madagascar and one in the Oriental Region.

Diagnosis: The tribe Epactoidini is supported by the following diagnostic characters (Figure 2): (i) elytra with 9–10 striae; (ii) besides epipleural carina, elytra with one or two additional lateral carinas; (iii) endophallus without frontolateral peripheral (FLP) endophallite; (iv) radial posterior (RP1) sclerite of hindwings (when present) approaches the posterior side the radial anterior (RA4) sclerite.

[Entomology • 2023] Semanopterus kingstoni • A New, but possibly extinct, Species of Semanopterus Hope, 1847 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Dynastinae) from Lord Howe Island, in the southwestern Pacific Ocean

Abstract
A new and brachypterous species of Semanopterus Hope, 1847 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Dynastinae: Pentodontini) is described: S. kingstoni Reid & Tees, new species. The species is based on a single female specimen, collected on Lord Howe Island in the southwest Pacific Ocean. It is the sixth species of dynastine known from Lord Howe Island; a key is provided for identification of all of the species known from this small island.

Abstract
Pseudohomonyx continentalis Yang & Pathomwattananurak, new species from Malaysia and Thailand, is described and illustrated herein. Male of P. apoensis Miyake & Yamaya, 1997 is described and illustrated for the first time. Pseudohomonyx javanus (Burmeister, 1847) is newly recorded from Malaysia and Thailand. An annotated catalogue and a distribution map for the genus are also provided.

Abstract
In this contribution, Colacus rubrofemoratus Sobral, Morais, & Grossi new species (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Dynastinae: Agaocephalini) is described and illustrated based on male specimens found in a transitional area of Caatinga, Atlantic Forest, and Cerrado in Brazil. In addition, the female of Colacus morio Ohaus, 1910 is redescribed, a distribution map for the genus is provided, and a new key to the species of Colacus is presented.

Abstract
Ten species of the genus Parastasia Westwood, 1841 including a new species and a new record are recorded from Thailand. We here describe Parastasia spinosa Hongsuwong, Sanguansub & Jaitrong, new species from eastern Thailand based on a male specimen. Parastasia bimaculata (Guérin-Méneville, 1843) is recorded for the first time in Thailand. We confirm that Parastasia bigibbosa Nonfried, 1891 occurs in the country. Parastasia andamanae (Ghai, Chandra & Ramamurthy, 1988) is synonymized with P. bigibbosa. A key to the Thai Parastasia species is provided.

Abstract
Four new species of the genus Eophileurus Arrow, 1908 are described: E. minor Yang & Pathomwattananurak, new species (Thailand and Vietnam), E. prelli Yang & Pathomwattananurak, new species (Vietnam), E. quadratifovealis Yang & Pathomwattananurak, new species and E. sidereus Yang & Pathomwattananurak, new species (both Thailand). Two new junior synonyms are proposed: E. confinis Prell, 1913 = E. takakuwai Yamaya & Muramoto, 2008, new synonym and E. felschei Prell, 1913 = E. grossepunctatus Dupuis, 2014, new synonym. Lectotypes for E. andamanicus Arrow, 1914 and E. siamensis Arrow, 1914 are designated. Taxonomic problems regarding E. confinis and E. malyi Endrődi, 1978 are discussed. Type material of E. andamanicus, E. confinis, E. decipiens Prell, 1913, E. felschei, E. gracilis Prell, 1913, E. grossepunctatus, E. malyi, E. nicobarensis Endrődi, 1978 and E. siamensis is illustrated. A distribution map of the new species and their closest relatives is also provided.

[Entomology • 2022] Review of the Adoretini (Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae, Rutelinae) of Cambodia with Six New Species

Abstract 
All Cambodian species of the Rutelinae tribe Adoretini (Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae) are listed and commented on. Ten species are recorded from the country for the first time: Adoretus (Adoretuscribratus White, 1844, A. (Adoretussaigonensis Ohaus, 1914, A. (Adoretuslajoyi Ohaus, 1914, A. (Adoretusnitens Frey, 1970, A. (Adoretusohmomoi Kobayashi, 2007, A. (Adoretusvietnamensis Frey, 1970, A. (Chaetadoretuslaosensis Frey, 1970, A. (Lepadoretusarrowi (Frey, 1970), A. (Lepadoretuspauliani (Frey, 1970), and A. (Lepadoretusvitticauda Arrow, 1914. Six new species are described and compared to their related species: A. (Adoretusbacrii sp. nov., A. (A.) cambodiensissp. nov., A. (A.) husemanni sp. nov., A. (A.) phauki sp. nov., A. (A.) sougnezi sp. nov. and A. (A.) khmerus sp. nov. The type material of A. (Lepadoretuscompressus (Weber, 1801) was rediscovered, and a lectotype is designated. Adoretus (Adoretussaigonensis Ohaus, 1914 is confirmed as a good species. Male genitalia illustrations, photographs of habitus and distribution maps are provided for all species. The Cambodian fauna of Adoretini now counts 19 species.

[Entomology • 2021] Compsodactylus mendax Compsodactylus Fuhrmann, 2012 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae): Distributional Notes and A New Species

Abstract
A new species of Compsodactylus Fuhrmann, 2012 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae: Macrodactylini) is described from Peru. New provincial records for Compsodactylus argentinus (Moser, 1919) are detailed for Argentina: Córdoba and Misiones. A revised key to Compsodactylus species is presented.

Compsodactylus mendax Fuhrmann & Smith, new species

Diagnosis. Length greater than 8.0 mm; dorsal surface with metallic green reflections; antennae with 10 antennomers; clypeus elongate with expanded apex in males (Fig. 4); clypeus with short, spiny setae along apex and lateral edges in males; apex of protarsomere I 2 times wider than apex of protarsomere II in males; elytral striae distinctly punctate; male metatibial apex with an inner truncate, twisted process (Fig. 16); genitalia of females with gonostyle, and gonocoxite about 2.5 times longer than wide (Figs. 23−25).

Etymology. From the Latin mendax meaning liar, in reference to the elongate clypeus being reminiscent of Pinocchio’s nose. This name is a noun in apposition.

ABSTRACT
The Phanaeus endymion species group is defined as a lineage of dung beetles distributed from Mexico to Ecuador. The current arrangement of the P. endymion species group includes 18 species (five newly described and three revalidated herein): P. arletteae Arnaud, 2018; P. bravoensis Moctezuma, Sánchez-Huerta & Halffter, 2017; P. chiapanecus sp. nov.; P. edmondsi Moctezuma, Deloya & Halffter, 2019; P. endymion Harold, 1863; P. funereus Balthasar, 1939 stat. rev.; P. halffterorum Edmonds, 1979; P. huichol Moctezuma, Sánchez-Huerta & Halffter, 2017; P. jackenioi sp. nov.; P. malyi Arnaud, 2002; P. olsoufieffi Balthasar, 1939 stat. rev.; P. pacificus sp. nov.; P. panamensis sp. nov.; P. porioni Arnaud, 2001 stat. rev.; P. pyrois Bates, 1887; P. rzedowskii sp. nov.; P. zapotecus Edmonds, 2006; and P. zoque Moctezuma & Halffter, 2017. Phanaeus dionysius Kohlmann, Arriaga-Jiménez & Rös, 2018 syn. nov. is considered as a new junior subjective synonymy of P. zapotecus Edmonds, 2006. Phanaeus blanchardi Olsoufieff, 1924 and P. bothrus Blackwelder, 1944 are junior objective synonyms of P. olsoufieffi Balthasar, 1939 stat. rev.

Etymology: The specific epithet of the new species refers to Chiapas, where the type series was collected.


Phanaeus jackenioi sp. nov.

Etymology: We are honoured to dedicate this new species to Jack Schuster and Enio Cano. They have significantly contributed to the knowledge of the Guatemalan scarab beetles, particularly of the family Passalidae.


Phanaeus pacificus sp. nov.

Etymology: The specific epithet refers to the Pacific slope, where the new species occurs.


Phanaeus panamensis sp. nov. 

Etymology: The specific epithet refers to Panama, where a majority of the type series was collected.


 Phanaeus rzedowskii sp. nov. 

Etymology: We are honoured to name the new species after Jerzy Rzedowski, to recognise his outstanding contribution to the knowledge of the Mexican biodiversity, particularly to the flora from El Bajío region.
