Specification. of Letters atcnt.
Patented May 316, 19nd.
Application med August 27, 1915. Serial No. 47,659.
To all `whom t may concern Be it known that l, EDWARD L. ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county oi' Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful improvement in Cuuttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cull buttons and relates more particularly to cuil' buttons for use with link cul'is.
T he primary object of the invention is to provide a cuff button in which the heads are independently mounted so as to have universal movement enabling same to accommodate themselves to the position to which the cuff may be bent, or to the angle in which the cuil' is bent.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cud button in which the heads are separable from one another, which allows large heads to be used with small buttonholes. and the button applied with ease and facility.
Other and further objects of the invention will be later herein set forth and manifested in the course of the following description.
ln the drawings- Figure is a plan view of the invention in position on a link cuff, the latter shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the device, and Fig. 3 is an elevation, showing the parts in their detached relation.
ln proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a pair or" stud buttons l are preferably employed, which latter are arranged in back to back relation, or with their bases abutting, and are removably connected by a snap fastening composed of a socket 2 formed in the base oi" one of the studs and a post like catch 3 adapted to snap into the said socket 2 and carried by the base of the other stud.
The heads t which may be of an ornamental type or character are provided with rear extensions forming sockets 5, the latter being of spring properties and constituted of a series of spring gripping fingers adapted to receive and irmly engage the heads oi' the studs l, as depicted in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. ltwill be understood that the heads 4 are readily disengageable from and engageable with the sockets 5, so as to allow the studs to be passed through small button holes. In addition, the sockets provide swivel or universal joint connections between the studs and the heads, allowing the latter to readily give or to move to correspond to the angle of the link cuil.
lt will thus be apparent from the forego# ing that, and as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the parts may be separated as concerns the studs and the heads connected thereto, as concerns the heads while the studs remain connected, or all of the parts may be separated to cause the heads to be disengaged and the studs as well as in Fig. 3. lt will also be apparent that the two studs constitute a connecting member for the two heads which member is not only separable int'o two parts but is also the means of supporting the heads to permit same to have universal movement.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is;-
1. ln a cud button, a pair of studs one having a hole in its base and the other having a snap fastener projecting therefrom and receivable in the hole whereby to secure the studs with their bases abutting, and a. pair of heads having spring sockets adapted to snap over the heads of the studs whereby to connect the heads to the studs and to allow the heads to have universal movement on the heads of the studs.
2. ln a cud button, a pair of studs, means to connect the studs in bach to back relation, and heads universally and removably conneeted to the heads of the studs.
3. lln a cud' button a pair of studs, means to removably connect the studs, and heads universally and removably connected to the heads of the studs.
l fl. ln a cuil button, a two-party separable Stud7 and :i pair of heads each provided with In testimony whereof have hereunto a socket removably and swlvelly recelvlng signed my nume to th1s specification 1n the a part of the stud. presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
In a cu button, a pair of studs having EDV/'ARD L. ANDERSON'. Het abutting bases detachabiy secured to- Vtnesses: gether, and a head universally connected to ADA E. HAGERTY, each stud. J. A. MILLER.
