Specification of Letters Patent.
PatentedNov. 1 2,1912.
. 'Application filed January 5,1912. Serial no. 669,590;
To all it may 0071mm:
Be it kn'own that I, MARVIN KEnADY, a citizen of the United States,-and a resident of Portland, in the county of Multnomah 7 and State of Oregon,
havemvented a new and Improved Shaving-Brush, of which the and exact description,
My invention relates to shaving brushes,
1 19 and it has for its object ,toprovide one with 'a hollow handle, forming a reservoir, which is slidably mounted. in a tubular member, to which the brush is secured, so that valve mechanism connected with the handle and the tubular" member, will be operated when the handle is-moved relatively to the tubular 'member to permit a liquid soap contained in the fountain to flow to the brush.
' Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following complete specifica:
tion, in which the preferred form of the invention is disclosed.
In the drawings similar characters of ref.
' erence indicate corresponding parts in both the views, in which 1 is a side view of the brush;
Figure 2 1s a longitudinal sectional view and Fig of Fig. 1.
By referring-to the drawings it will be seen that a collar 5 is provided having a head 6, with an openin 7 1n which the nozzle InemberS is secure The ends 9' of the sides of the collar converge outwardly, and within these sides and about the nozzle 8 the butt end 10 of the brush 11 is secured by cement 12. The nozzle 8 has an inner thread 13 with which meshes the outer thread 14;
on the 'valve tube 15] This valve tube 15 projects through an opening or port 16 in the head" 17 of the handle 18 the handle 18 being hollow to form a'reservoir 19. The head '17 has sides 20, 'which are slidably' disposed within the collar 5, the sides 20 of 'the head, 17 .havingan inner, thread 21,
which mesheswith an outer thread ,22 on the handle '18. y Y Disposed within the sides 20 of the head :17, andiheldibetween the head 17 andthe end 23,v ofrthe-handle-18;" there is a valve washer. 2, thisivalv'ewasher 24: having an opening '25,,the valve tube 15 throu h the opening 16 in the head 17- but. Imough v the or opening 25 in the valve extend ng not only 55. The vnvempeilss prdviddwithahead' "w esgee-rises t erally beyond the opening 25 the washer 24, this head 26 with its flan'ge 27 the opening in the head'17, and also in the opening 25. in the valve washer 24:.- This hollow or collar 5.
between the head 17 and the head 6.there is a spring 28, for holding. the handle 18 with its reservoir extended so that {the'latclosed by the valve washer 24. I I
In'using the invention the handle 18 is un' the reservoir 19 in the head is filled'with a liquid soap. The handle 18 is then screwed in place on the sides 20 of the head 17, when the shaving brush is ready foruse reservoir to flow to the brush necessary to hold vertical. position, with the brush 11 downward, andto press down on the handle 18. When this is done he moved down'and beyond the lateral port port and permitting the liquid soap in the reservoir nozzle 8 to the brush 11. When the presthe valve washer 2 iawa'yfrom the head 6,
lateral port 29, and prevent'the flow-of the the nozzle 8.
-Having'=,thus claim as-newand desire to-secureby Letters ],atent; l Y
.1. In a shavingbrush a handle having'a reservoir andprovidedwith an opening, a
collar havinga head, with an opening,;1nter- ,ends. having sliding engagement with the spaced from-the sides otthe-co lar,
port and projecting; 1u;,the opening in the heel esrregs sree valve,
Disposed around the valve tube 15 andmediate of ts ends, the collarat one of its handle, a noz'zle secured. the opening and" s at the, other: end, anda brush secured between the 'nozz'le-iand the said sides, a valve-tube con- -nectedwith thenozzle-andhaving a lateral holding the valve tube 15 in position within v head 26 with its flange 27 serves to prevent the head 17 from slipping from within the eralport 29 in the valve tube 15 will be screwed from the side 20 of the head 17"and In order. to permit the liquid soap contained in the 11 it is merely the-shaving brush ina so: v
the handle'18', with its f head 17 will move downwardly, and within the collar 5, so that the valve washer 24 will' 19- to pass through the 'lateral port 29 to the valve tube 15, and through the 0 sure on the handle 18 is removed the spring 1 28 will serve to move the head and with it .so that the valve washer 12 will close the 9.5 liquid soap through the valve tube15 and described my' invention I 7 etwceln the handle 8T5 29 in the valve tube 15 thereby exposing the V and the head, and a head on the valve tube disposed within the reservoir fr limiting the .hutward' movement of the collar relathread outer thread around the said end, a head with an opening and having sides with an inner meshing with the first-mentioned thread, a valve vvasher having an opening registering with the first-mentioned opening, and a periphery disposed between the head and the said end of the handle, a collar having a brush, a valve tube secured to the collar, and projecting through the openings for directing a fluid contained in the reser voir in the direction of the brush, a head on the valve tube, disposed in the reservoir, there being a lateral port in the valve tube, and a spring ed relatively. tothe collar.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
