Toall1li/omitmaycoacerafil y Be it known that LHJOHN E. HEWETT, a citizen of the United States,`residing at Wilmington, inthe county of New Hanover and State of North Carolina,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brooms, of which the following is specification;

This invention y relates `to improvements in brooms, and hasprimarily for its object to provide a device of that class wherein areservoir for liquid disinfectant is formed within 'the handle of the broom.

A. further object of the invention contemplates the provision of a detachable hollow handle to which the head of the broom is rigidly secured, the latter serving as a closure or stopper therefor, while the opposite end of the handle is provided with a `detachable nozzle through which the contents (preferably a liquid disinfectant) may be sprayed or otherwise dispensed at intervals during a sweeping operation, the dispensing of the disinfectant being accomplished by inverting the broom and permitting the disinfectant to run out as occasion demands.

The invention still further aims to provide a simple and compact broom wherein the advantages above mentionedmay be readily effected without increasing the cost of manufacture to any materialextent.

The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means `as are illustrated in their preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification and thenmore particularly pointed out in the claim which is appended hereto.`

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, wherein like charactersdenote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which: y

Referring now? to the drawings wherein is illustrated the preferred embodiment of `my invention, the numeral 1 designates the head of the broom from the upper extremity of which the usual stock 2 projects, the latter handle, the stopper forming a liquid tight closure therefor. Upon `the opposite end of the handle 4 is detachably secured a perforate nozzle 5 of any suitable shape, the said `nozzle being preferably threaded as at 6 to` the handle 4 as illustrated to advantage in: Fig. 1 of `the drawings. Referring now to the modification shown in Fig. 4, the stock 11 of the broom head 12 in this instance is exteriorly threaded asat 13 and `provided with the usual stopper 14, the threaded portion of the stock, as well as the stopper 14, being received by the handle 15 which is `interiorly threaded at its lower extremity to render the attachment of the head lthereto more securethan that `ef` upon the surface to be swept by merely `inverting the broom and permitting the said disinfectant to flow through the apertures of the nozzle; that a free flow of the disin fectant is insured by the provision ofthe vent `7 y arranged within the handle.4 in the manner above described; and that are filling` of the handle may be accomplished by detaching the head 1 therefrom, or, if'desired,
