Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the amt. of production of waste by mixing a dispersant with a slurry of ion exchange resins stuck to solid particles and irradiating ultrasonic waves thereto in this state thereby stripping the solid particles stuck to the ion exchange resin used particularly in nuclear power plants.
CONSTITUTION: The slurry of powdery ion exchange resins which are discharged by backwashing with water from a condensate filter and are stuck with solid particles (clads) is supplied 13 to a clad separating vessel 6, where the resins are settled in the bottom part of the vessel 6. On the other hand, water contg. a dispersant is introduced 26 into the vessel 6, and is mixed with the resin slurry. In this state, an ultrasonic oscillator 7 is operated to irradiate ultrasonic waves to the resins, by which the clads of the fine particles stuck thereon are stripped from the resins and are moved in the upper part of the vessel 6, whilst the resins are allowed to exist in the bottom part of the vessel 6. Next, the water contg. the clads is flowed 18 into a mixing tank 8, where a flocculant 9 is supplied and these are uniformly mixed under stirring, after which the mixture is conducted to a settling tank 10 where the clads are settled and separated. The resins not stuck to the clads are recovered 16 and reused.
