Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to enlarge the distance between an optical fiber and a bar code in an apparatus which measures stroke by optically reading the bar code, by providing a rod lens and a slit at the end of a light-receiving fiber. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber element 20 comprises a light-receiving fiber 6 to be an axial core, a light-projecting fiber 7 surrounding the periphery, a slit plate 22 which is provided to the end surface of the light-receiving fiber 6 and has a slit 21 to restrict the light-receiving area thereof, and a rod lens 24. The light reflected from a bar code is reflacted by means of the rod lens 24, throwing the bar code image on the light going-out surface thereof. Drawing out said image of 1/2 pitch of the bar code through the slit 21 permits the light-quantity change in accordance with the movement of the bar code to be obtained.
