Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily measure real-time by immersing the surface of a transparent object of higher refraction index than a liquid to be measured in a liquid to be measured inputting a prearranged light to the surface of the transparent object from within the object and detecting the quantity of a reflective light on the surface. CONSTITUTION:A light shedded from a luminous diode 6 connected to a drive circuit 20 is input to one end 24 of U-shaped supertransparent quartz rod 4 through a focusing rod lens 3. The U-shaped part of the quartz rod 4 is immersed in a liquid to be measured which has a lower index of refraction than the quartz rod 4. A focusing rod lens 25 is also attached to one end 22 of the quartz rod 4, indicating efficiently an outputting light on a photoelectric conversion meter 24 through the intermediary of a phototransmitter 7. Under this constitution, the entirety of a light having an incident component at sharper angle than a total reflective critical angle of an incident light, is reflected and the quantity of the reflective light is detected. Accordingly, if a relationship between an index of refraction and the quantity of reflective light is sought with regard to a few kinds of liquid, it is possible to easily measure an index of refraction real-time on the index of refraction of an unknown liquid.
