Description
図6は、本発明の実施形態に係わる光デバイスの一例を示す。光デバイスは、この実施例では、偏波多重光信号を生成する光変調器である。LN基板1は、XカットLN基板であり、図5および図6において実質的に同じである。また、LN基板1の表面領域に形成される光導波路は、図5および図6において実質的に同じであるものとする。すなわち、LN基板1上には、図3に示すように、親マッハツェンダ干渉計MZI_Xおよび親マッハツェンダ干渉計MZI_Yが構成される。親マッハツェンダ干渉計MZI_Xは、1組のマッハツェンダ干渉計XI、XQを備え、親マッハツェンダ干渉計MZI_Yは、1組のマッハツェンダ干渉計YI、YQを備える。また、各マッハツェンダ干渉計は、第1の導波路部、曲線導波路部、および第2の導波路部を含む。

Claims (7)
- LN(LiNbO3)基板と、
前記LN基板の表面領域に形成される、マッハツェンダ干渉計を構成する光導波路と、
前記LN基板上に形成される信号電極と、
前記LN基板上に形成される接地電極と、を備え、
前記信号電極および前記接地電極は、前記光導波路を挟むように形成され、
前記LN基板は、前記信号電極と前記接地電極との間に電圧が与えられたときに、前記LN基板の表面に沿った方向に電界が発生するXカットLN基板であり、
前記光導波路は、
入力光を第1の方向に伝搬する第1の導波路部と、
前記第1の導波路部に光学的に結合し、前記入力光を前記第1の方向と異なる方向に導く曲線導波路部と、
前記曲線導波路部に光学的に結合する第2の導波路部と、を備え、
前記信号電極は、
前記第1の導波路部の近傍に設けられる第1の電極と、
前記第2の導波路部の近傍に設けられる第2の電極と、を備え、
前記マッハツェンダ干渉計を駆動する差動電気信号の一方の信号が前記第1の電極に与えられ、前記差動電気信号の他方の信号が前記第2の電極に与えられる
ことを特徴とする光デバイス。 - 前記差動電気信号を生成するドライバ回路と前記第1の電極との間の配線の長さより、前記ドライバ回路と前記第2の電極との間の配線の長さが長く、
前記第1の導波路部と前記第1の電極とが互いに平行に形成される領域の長さより、前記第2の導波路部と前記第2の電極とが互いに平行に形成される領域の長さが短い
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光デバイス。 - 前記差動電気信号を生成するドライバ回路と前記LN基板との間に1または複数の中継基板をさらに備え、
前記1または複数の中継基板のうちの少なくとも1つは積層基板である
ことを特徴とする請求項2に記載の光デバイス。 - 前記積層基板において、前記ドライバ回路と前記第1の電極との間の配線は、前記積層基板の表面のみに形成され、
前記積層基板において、前記ドライバ回路と前記第2の電極との間の配線の一部は、前記積層基板の内層に形成される
ことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の光デバイス。 - 前記積層基板に形成される前記ドライバ回路と前記第1の電極との間の配線の長さは、前記積層基板に形成される前記ドライバ回路と前記第2の電極との間の配線の長さより短い
ことを特徴とする請求項4に記載の光デバイス。 - 光変調器および光受信器を含む光送受信機であって、
前記光変調器は、
LN(LiNbO3)基板と、
前記LN基板の表面領域に形成される、マッハツェンダ干渉計を構成する光導波路と、
前記LN基板上に形成される信号電極と、
前記LN基板上に形成される接地電極と、を備え、
前記信号電極および前記接地電極は、前記光導波路を挟むように形成され、
前記LN基板は、前記信号電極と前記接地電極との間に電圧が与えられたときに、前記LN基板の表面に沿った方向に電界が発生するXカットLN基板であり、
前記光導波路は、
入力光を第1の方向に伝搬する第1の導波路部と、
前記第1の導波路部に光学的に結合し、前記入力光を前記第1の方向と異なる方向に導く曲線導波路部と、
前記曲線導波路部に光学的に結合する第2の導波路部と、を備え、
前記信号電極は、
前記第1の導波路部の近傍に設けられる第1の電極と、
前記第2の導波路部の近傍に設けられる第2の電極と、を備え、
前記マッハツェンダ干渉計を駆動する差動電気信号の一方の信号が前記第1の電極に与えられ、前記差動電気信号の他方の信号が前記第2の電極に与えられる
ことを特徴とする光送受信機。 - 前記差動電気信号を生成するドライバ回路と前記第1の電極との間の配線の長さより、前記ドライバ回路と前記第2の電極との間の配線の長さが長く、
前記第1の導波路部と前記第1の電極とが互いに平行に形成される領域の長さより、前記第2の導波路部と前記第2の電極とが互いに平行に形成される領域の長さが短い
ことを特徴とする請求項6に記載の光送受信機。
