Abstract
Description
図1は本発明の本実施の形態に係る表示装置の表示面方向から見た平面図(a)、平面図(a)をA方向から見た側面図および平面図(a)をB方向から見た側面図(c)、図2は本実施の形態に係る表示装置の斜視図、図3は、本実施の形態に係る表示装置の分解斜視図、図4は本発明の表示装置の要部斜視図、図5は図2のD−D断面図、図6は図2のC−C断面図、図7は表示装置の構成部材である支持部材の上面図および側面図である。
本発明の表示装置100の構造を説明する。図1〜図5に示すように、本発明の表示装置100は、画像を表示する第1の表示パネル11および第2の表示パネル12の複数の表示パネルを備えている。第1の表示パネル11および第2の表示パネル12には、外部からの信号を入力するため、配線基板111および121が接続される。さらに、表示パネルに光を照射するため、第1の表示パネル11および第2の表示パネル12の背面にバックライト112および122が配置されている。また、第1の表示パネル11、第2の表示パネル12の保護および表示装置100の意匠性を上げるため、表示パネルの前面側(表示面側)に保護部材13が配置されている。保護部材13は、平板状のガラスであって、第1の表示パネル11の表示領域131および第2の表示パネル12の表示領域132が形成される。また、表示領域131、132を除く周辺領域133には、光を遮光する遮光部材が配置されている。このように形成された保護部材13の背面134より透明性の粘着材(図示無し)を介して第1の表示パネル11、第2の表示パネル121が貼り付け固定されている。
保護部材13は、筐体2の屈曲部23に配置される領域の厚みを他の部分より薄く形成してもよい。屈曲部23が他の部分よりも薄く形成することで、屈曲させやすくなるため、複数の曲率を形成することが容易となる。屈曲部23は他の部分の保護部材13よりも75%程度で形成させることが好ましい。
保護部材13は、表示パネル11、12(後述するタッチパネル搭載時はタッチパネル)への外部からの加圧や接触による損傷、変形、磨耗、汚れ等を防止するために第1表示パネル1または第2の表示パネル12の前面に配置されるもので、ガラスまたはガラスを含む材料であって、透明または概ね透明の材料により構成されている。保護部材13は、強度が高く変形しにくいガラスを用いることが望ましい。本発明に用いる保護部材13は、表示パネルの表示領域以外の周辺領域を遮光領域としたが、前面あるいは裏面への印刷や塗装を行うことにより、意匠部材としての機能を付加することもできる。なお、本実施の形態の第1の表示パネル11は湾曲させて配置させているため、筺体2の枠部21に沿って湾曲させている。保護部材13は、自由に曲げられる様に薄型化した薄板状に加工された平面状のガラスで、板厚0.4mm以下が望ましい。曲率R100以下に曲げようとした場合、0.4mm程度では保護部材13の反力があり剥がれる可能性が高い。よって、0.4mmより薄い保護部材13を用いることで剥がれに対する応力が軽減する。平板状の保護部材13に貼り付けた第1の表示パネル11と第2の表示パネル12の筺体2のデザイン形状に沿った表示装置100が製作可能となる。
保護部材13と筐体2とを貼り付ける両面テープについては、保護部材13の曲げ応力を緩和し追従できる様に、クッション性のある概ね1mm厚程度の両面テープを使用することが好ましい。
表示パネル1は、プラズマ表示パネル、有機ELパネル、液晶表示パネルなどを用いることができる。液晶表示パネルは液晶の複屈折性を応用しており、ガラスなどの絶縁性基板上に着色層、遮光層、対向電極等が形成された第1の基板と、ガラスなどの絶縁性基板上にスイッチング素子となる薄膜トランジスタ、画素電極等が形成された第2の基板とを備えている。また、第1の基板と第2の基板との間隔を保持するためのスペーサ、第1の基板と第2の基板とを貼り合わせるためのシール材、両基板の間に狭持させる液晶、液晶を注入する注入口の封止材、液晶を配光させる配向膜および偏光板などにより構成されている(図示せず)。
第1の表示パネル11および第2の表示パネル12には、配線基板111および121がそれぞれ接続され、配線基板111、121の端部に制御基板のコネクタを接続して画像を表示させる信号を入力する(図示せず)。
バックライト112、122は、光を出射する光源2と、光を拡散する反射板、光学シートなどを備え、第1の表示パネル11および第2の表示パネル12を背面側から照射する。
第1表示パネル11、第2の表示パネル12は表示面側にタッチパネル(図示せず)が配置されていてもよい。タッチパネルは、透明な基板上に形成された透明電極による回路により、外部(操作者)から入力された位置座標に関する情報を電気信号に変換し、出力配線部材により最終製品に配置される制御回路へ伝達する(図示せず)。タッチパネルは、投射容量方式のものを用いることが多い。投射容量方式のタッチパネルは、操作者の指先等の位置を座標データが検知し、接触位置とその付近の複数の電極パターンによる電流量の比率を計測することで指の位置を精密に判別しすることで、信号の入力を行っている。また、タッチパネルを構成する上下の基板は、透明なガラスなどが用いられる(図示せず)。
