ポリマー分散液の一般的な製造方法
ポリマー分散液をガラス内張り反応器で製造した。モノマーと界面活性剤との予備エマルションを調製し、重合されるモノマーの小さい部で反応器を充填して、約1.2pphmのシードラテックス及び小さい部の界面活性剤を重合の間使用した。反応器の内容物を60℃超に加熱し、モノマーの予備エマルション及び開始剤の溶液を、3時間にわたり反応器に供給した。温度を重合反応の所要時間にわたり100℃未満に維持し、次いでその内容物を70℃に冷却すると化学的脱臭が開始した。さらに50℃未満に冷却した後、pHを7.0−8.5に調節して、市販の殺生剤を添加した。

D50:ポリマー粒子の質量平均直径、Malvern Autosizer装置を使用して光子相関分光法により測定された
塗料の練り顔料は、2000〜2500rpmで30分間運転させている高速分散機を使用して表Aに示された成分から製造された。30分間の高速混合後、分散液はヘグマンゲージ(Hegman gauge)を用いて60μm未満であると検定された。
III.1 耐汚染性
耐汚染性のため、改変したBASF Australia社の方式「BALTM048」を使用した。試験塗料を、ブラックPVCスクラブパネル(Leneta社製)上に未乾燥塗膜厚(WFT)125μmで引き伸ばした。この試料を23℃で24時間硬化させた。次に、別の125μmWFT塗膜を第1の塗膜に引き伸ばし、それによって2層の試験試料が得られた。第2の塗膜を塗布した後、この試料を再び23℃で7日間硬化させた。
耐洗浄性試験は、1%Teric N9溶液及び予め使用した同じ型のスポンジを用いて、試験塗料の単一の引き伸ばしについて行われた。試験塗料を、ブラックPVCスクラブパネル(Lineta社、米国)上に未乾燥塗膜厚(WFT)125μmで引き伸ばした。この試料を23℃で7日間に渡って硬化させた。次に、60°及び85°の角度での光沢を、BYK光沢計を用いて測定し、パネルに沿って3点の読み取り平均をとった。次に、このパネルをスクラブ試験器に置くことによって洗い試験を行った。次いで、汚染試験に使用されたものと同じ型のスポンジであって、1%m/mのTeric(登録商標)N9溶液50ml(汚染試験に使用されたもの)に予め浸したスポンジによって、この試験パネルを200回洗った。再度60°及び85°での光沢を測定したが、85°の結果が最も有意であるので、この結果のみが本明細書で引用されている。第2表に示された結果は、パネルの3点の光沢読み取りの平均値である。
ステインの浸透は、ステインが塗膜中に浸透するか又はその表面ではじかれるかの指標を与える。良好な耐汚染浸透性は、高い耐汚染性のために重要である。試験塗料を、ガラスパネル上に未乾燥塗膜厚(WFT)125μmで引き伸ばした。これらのパネルを試験前に23℃で7日間に渡って硬化させた。このパネルを、赤ワイン、赤インク、青インク及びコーヒーを用いて、一カ所のみ染色し、これらを塗膜上で15分間そのままにさせた。15分後、このパネルを水で簡単にすすぎ、24時間乾燥させた。次に、ステインがどれだけ塗膜に浸透したかについての観察は、染色した側を昼白色の背景に対して配置し、ガラスパネルの反対側からこのステインを見ることによって成された。以下の評価を適用した:
評価 説明
0 ステインは見られない
1 ステインが非常にかすかに見える
2 ステインがかすかに見える
3 ステインがはっきりと見える
4 ステインは非常に強いがガラスに浸透していない
5 ステインはガラスに浸透している
Claims (17)
- 水性塗料組成物の耐汚染性及び耐浸透性の改良方法において、前記方法は少なくとも1種の顔料、水性ポリマー分散液の形態の少なくとも1種の皮膜形成ポリマー及び少なくとも1種のアニオン性界面活性剤を含有する塗料組成物を提供することを含み、前記アニオン性界面活性剤は、塗料組成物中のアニオン性界面活性剤の全質量を基準として、少なくとも85質量%の少なくとも1種のアニオン性界面活性剤S、又はそれらの塩を含み、前記アニオン性界面活性剤Sは硫酸又はリン酸とアルコールAとの半エステルから選択され、前記アルコールAは8〜30個の炭素原子を有する少なくとも1種のアルキル残基又はアルキルが4〜40個の炭素原子を有するアルキル置換フェニル残基を有し且つ前記アルコールAはオリゴ−C2−C3−アルキレン−エーテル基を有してもよいが、但し、オリゴ−C2−C3−アルキレン−エーテル基の繰り返し単位の数が15以下であることを特徴とする、水性塗料組成物の耐汚染性及び耐浸透性の改良方法。
- 前記アニオン性界面活性剤が少なくとも12個の炭素原子を有するアルキル残基を有することを特徴とする、請求項1記載の方法。
- 前記アニオン性界面活性剤が少なくとも14個の炭素原子を有するアルキル残基を有することを特徴とする、請求項2記載の方法。
- 前記アニオン性界面活性剤が式Ia又はIb:
M3−n[O4−nP−(O−(Alk−O)mR)n] (Ia)
M[O3S−O−(Alk−O)mR] (Ib)
[式中、nは1又は2であり;mは0〜15の整数であり、Mは水素、アルカリ金属イオン又はアンモニウムイオンからなる群から選択され、AlkはC2−C3−アルキレンであり、RはC8−C30アルキル及びC4−C30アルキルフェニルから選択される]の界面活性剤であることを特徴とする、請求項1記載の方法。 - 式Ia又はIbのMが水素とは異なり且つ基Alk−Oが、基Alk−Oの総質量を基準として、少なくとも50質量%の式CH2CH2Oの基を含むことを特徴とする、請求項4記載の方法。
- 式Ia又はIbのmが2〜15、有利には2〜12、特に2〜10であることを特徴とする、請求項4又は5記載の方法。
- 式Ia又はIbのmが0又は1、特に0であることを特徴とする、請求項5記載の方法。
- 式Ia又はIbのRがC10−C25アルキル、有利にはC12−C24アルキル、特にC14−C22アルキルであることを特徴とする、請求項4から7までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- 前記アニオン性界面活性剤Sが、塗料組成物中の皮膜形成ポリマーを基準として、0.1〜4.0質量%の量で存在することを特徴とする、請求項1から8までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- 非イオン性界面活性剤の量が、塗料組成物中の皮膜形成ポリマーを基準として、3.0質量%を超えないことを特徴とする、請求項1から9までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- 前記皮膜形成ポリマーが50℃以下のガラス転移温度(ASTM−D 3418−82に従って測定された)を有することを特徴とする、請求項1から10までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- 前記皮膜形成ポリマーが、連鎖調節剤の存在下でエチレン系不飽和モノマーのエマルション重合によって得られることを特徴とする、請求項1から11までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- 前記皮膜形成ポリマーのポリマー粒子が、50〜300nmの範囲の体積平均直径を有することを特徴とする、請求項1から12までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- 前記皮膜形成ポリマーが、重合されたモノマーとして:
− 20〜60質量%の、ビニル芳香族モノマー及びメタクリル酸のC1−C4アルキルエステルから選択された、少なくとも1種のモノマーM1a、
− 35〜69.9質量%の、アクリル酸のC2−C10アルキルエステルから選択された、ホモポリマーが10℃未満のガラス転移温度を有する少なくとも1種のモノマーM1b;
− 0〜5質量%の、モノマーM2としての1種又は複数種のモノエチレン系不飽和酸、
− 0〜5質量%の、モノエチレン系不飽和C3−C6モノカルボン酸のアミド、C1−C4ヒドロキシアルキルエステル及びC1−C4アルキルポリアルキレンオキシドエステルからなる群から選択される1種又は複数種のモノマーM3a;及び/又は
− 0〜5質量%の、尿素基を含有する1種又は複数種のモノエチレン系不飽和モノマーM3b;及び
− 0〜20質量%、有利には0〜10質量%の、アクリロニトリル及びメタクリロニトリルから選択された、1種又は複数種のモノマーM3bを含むが、
但し、モノマーM1a、M1b、M2、M3a、M3b及びM3cの総量を基準として、モノマーM1a、M1b、M2、M3a、M3b及びM3cの総量が100質量%であり、モノマーM2、M3a及びM3bの総量が0.1〜10質量%であることを特徴とする、請求項1から13までのいずれか1項記載の方法。 - モノマーM1aがメタクリル酸のC1−C4アルキルエステルから選択されることを特徴とする、請求項14記載の方法。
- 前記塗料組成物が、少なくとも2%の顔料体積濃度pvcを有することを特徴とする、請求項1から15までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- 少なくとも1種の顔料、水性ポリマー分散液の形態の少なくとも1種の皮膜形成ポリマー及び少なくとも1種のアニオン性界面活性剤を含有する水性塗料組成物から得られた塗膜の耐汚染性及び耐浸透性を増加するための請求項1から8までのいずれか1項記載のアニオン性界面活性剤Sの使用。
