Abstract
935,274. Control of A.C. motors. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 29, 1962 [July 14, 1961], No. 25627/61. Class 38 (3). [Also in Group XXXV] A polyphase dynamo-electric machine 1 operates as a motor to start gas turbine 2, and as a generator driven by the turbine to supply current to a load network operating at constant frequency. When the machine 1 is motoring, power is drawn from network 7 through frequency changer 6 comprising semi-conductor converters. One winding of a tachometer generator 3 is energized through line 13 from a source of low frequency and amplitude, the other winding supplies a reference signal to the frequency changer which also receives a control voltage through switch 9s. When the machine operates as an alternator, its output frequency is reduced by the frequency changer 6 to the value required by network 7. Direct-current excitation is applied through terminals 4, 5, and control signals for the frequency changer are supplied from line 11. Reference signals corresponding to the frequency of the network are supplied to the frequency changer from a local oscillator. When several turbines are equipped as described, the reference signals of supply frequency may be derived from a frequency changer associated with a turbine whichhas already started.
