Abstract
850,154. Electro-mechanical filters. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. Feb. 26, 1959 [March 7, 1958], No. 6793/59. Class 40(8). An electro-mechanical filter includes a plurality of mechanically coupled resonant elements mechanically resonant at substantially the same frequency, but arranged to oscillate in different modes with the result that spurious resonances occur at different frequencies and are not transmitted through the filter. The arrangement shown comprises five resonant elements 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8 coupled by elements 4, 9, 10 and 11 each a quarter wavelength long (or an odd multiple thereof) at the mid-frequency of the pass band of the filter. Elements 1, 6 and 8 are cylindrical and are caused to oscillate longitudinally. Elements 5 and 7 are rods of circular or rectangular cross-section and are caused to oscillate flexurally. Input and output transducers are provided by making elements 1 and 8 of magnetostrictive material such as ferrite and associating them respectively with input and output windings 2 and 12 and permanent magnets 3 and 13. With filters having a larger number of elements, groups of a few successive elements may have the same oscillatory mode, other elements or groups of successive elements oscillating in another mode.
