Abstract

767,915. Electro-mechanical filters. COLLINS RADIO CO. March 29, 1955 [June 16, 1954], No. 9166/55. Class 40 (8). An electro-mechanical filter comprises a resonant structure consisting of a number of parallel spaced discs attached to their peripheries to coupling wires 39, alternate discs 32, 34, 36, 38 being tuned to the resonant frequency, other discs 33, 35, 37 being tuned to frequencies above or below the band-pass of the filter. The off-tuned discs behave as impedance matching elements and their effect is to reduce the bandwidth of the filter. The input and output means consist of magneto-strictive rods 40, 41 which extend through coils 23 (one only shown) and are attached at their ends to discs 32, 38 respectively. The coils 11 are surrounded by brass tubes 21 above which are mounted polarizing magnets 29. The first and last discs 25, 30 are rigidly attached to the brass tubes 21 and do not form part of the vibrating system. The Specification contains a discussion of the electrical analogue of the system. Specifications 722,645 and 722,664 are referred to.
