Abstract
794,241. Guiding vehicles and trailers. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. July 2, 1956 [July 4, 1955], No. 20444/56. Class 79(5) [Also in Group XXXII] In a motor vehicle or trailer, a trailing axle 5 is axially slidable in bearings 12, 12, secured to leaf springs 13, 13, the latter being displaceable longitudinally but not transversely of the vehicle. Struts 6 rigid with the axle 5 are resiliently mounted forwardly at 8 by means of a rubber bushing 9 which permits a degree of lateral movement as shown in Fig. 2. The bearings 12 are connected to the respective leaf springs 13, 13, by resilient sleeves 11. A disc 17 rigid with the axle 5 is adapted to be engaged by centering springs 18, 18, the other ends of which are rigid respectively with rods 14, 14, secured to the springs 13, 13. Extensions of the rods 14 are connected by a tie bar 15. The springs 18, 18, are under a predetermined degree of precompression. In operation, when the vehicle is negotiating a bend the axle 5 is able to move laterally in the bearings 12 and the resilient sleeves 11, 11, and the bushing 9 permits a degree of obliquity of the axle 5 in relation to the vehicle frame. The springs 18, 18, provide a centering action. Both ends of the springs 13 are mounted by straps which permit the longitudinal movement.
