In a rotary duplicator of the kind in which sheets are printed from a master sheet bearing a mirror script impression, a moistening device is used comprising a roller 50 which is supplied from a velvet pad 16 carried by a pivoted hollow member 13, the pad having a horizontal part which rests on a wick 40 supplied with moisture by a pump'2, Fig. 4, which circulates liquid from a tank 44 via a valve 45, to a tube 41 formed with a slot 42 in which the wick 40 is arranged. The pad 16 is formed with an inclined part which rests normally upon the roller 50. The member 13 is moved to and from moistening position by means of an adjustable cam 24, 25, Fig. 1, which is adapted to oscillate a shaft 17 at each revolution of the printing drum, by means of lever mechanism 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, so that the pad 16 is held out of action at each revolution of the drum for a period depending on the relative angular adjustment of the two cam members 24, 25. The pad 16 is detachably coupled at one end to the shaft 17, and at the other end is mounted so as to rotate upon a spring-pressed conical bearing which can be withdrawn to permit removal of the pad. To adapt the pad to sheets of different widths a blanking-out sheet, 5, Fig. 7 (not shown), may be used. The roller 50 is fitted with a scraper pad 53, and a splash guard 54 is provided.
