Abstract
579,437. Blast furnaces. STEWART, J. S. March 30, 1944, No. 5912. Convention date, March 17, 1943. [Class 51 (ii)] A blast furnace comprises a smelting chamber furnished with tuyeres near the bottom and tapering upwards and inwards from the plane of the tuyeres at such an angle as to embrace and confine the charge without spaces between the charge and wall, the chamber being surmounted by a shaft housing a charging opening. The furnace comprises a smelting chamber 1 and an upright stack 2 communicating with a chimney 6, the material being fed from a shoot 7. The chamber is fitted with tuyeres 9 and rests on a hearth 11 forming a crucible 12, and a cyclose separator 16 is connected to the chimney by a branch 15. The chamber tapers at an angle of about 65 degrees. U.S.A. Specification 983,833 is referred to.
