Abstract
465,392. Projectiles. GOTH, I. Sept. 11, 1936, No. 24796. [Class 9 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] Driving, gas-check, and lubricating bands of projectiles are made of porous iron such as iron sponge; In making the bands, granules of iron sponge may be employed, these being moulded in presses into bands of the required size. The bands thus produced are then sintered in a hydrogen atmosphere at a temperature of about 1350‹ C. and are subsequently quenched in a bath of lubricant. Alternatively, the bands are allowed to cool and are placed in the bath after the air in the pores has been removed by evacuation. The lubrication of the bands may be effected by the use of oil mixed with graphite, talcum or the like preferably in colloidal form.
