Abstract

428,789. Tools and tool - holders. TURTON BROS. & MATTHEWS, Ltd., and FRANCIS, S., Steel, File, & Spring Works, Wentworth Street, Sheffield. Nov. 18, 1933, No. 32223. [Class 83 (iii)] In a cutting-tool of the type comprising a shank a with a head b grooved at c to receive a detachable hard cutting - bit d, the groove c is so located with respect to the shank and an abutment shoulder b<1> that the tool - bit is presented to the work so that the cutting-edge extends over the whole width of the tool and is located at approximately 60‹ to the work axis. The upper face of the head is inclined at about 20‹ to the horizontal and the cutting angle measured in the path of a chip across the bit face is about 70‹. At each side of the groove c the head is provided with teeth or serrations e engaged by complementary teeth on a member f which has a forked extension g forming a rear abutment for the cutting- bit. The member f is in turn engaged by teeth on a loose clamping-piece h, the whole being adjustably secured together to clamp the cutter by a bolt m passing through one of a series of holes n in the head through the forked extension g and through a slot h<1> in the clamping-piece. The head m<1> of the bolt is located in a groove o of the head. The piece h may be adjusted to serve as a chip breaker.
