Abstract

278,566. Jackson, L. Mellersh-, (Porter Engine Development, Inc.). Jan. 31, 1927. Channels in valves.-Packing for a rotary valve 4 comprises a ring 12 of oil-impregnated material such as "genalite," composed of bronze and graphite, arranged around the cylinder port 3 and pressed into contact with the valve by a spring 17. Oil is supplied to the space below the ring 12 by a passage 18 and discharged through a passage 19, thereby cooling the packing and adjacent parts and maintaining the packing impregnated with oil. The packing-ring is held by a member 13, 14 which is formed with thin resilient lips at 20 - - 22 for preventing leakage of gas and oil.
