Abstract

345,313. Lubricating stuffing-boxes. JOHNSON, J. Y., 47, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges. ; Frankfort-on-Main, Germany.) Sept. 23, 1929, No. 28783. [Class 12 (ii).] In an engine in which packing- rings 3 are arranged in the walls of the cylinder in recesses formed by washers 4 and spacing rings 5, lubricant is supplied to the rings 4 by pipes 14 under the control of an automatically-operated valve, and scavenging liquid is supplied to the rings 5 by pipes 15. Alternatively, the lubricating liquid may be employed for scavenging, suitable outlets being provided.
