Breech actions, sliding breech-block. -Relates to automatic guns of the type described in Specifications 148,022, 148,023 and 149,452, and consists (1) in a receiver of special construction adapted to be closed by a slidable frame carrying a hand-grip and the firing-mechanism, and (2) in providing a second hand-grip beneath the barrel. In the form illustrated, the receiver R, which is of substantially the same external width and depth throughout, is shaped internally with a large rearward and a small forward section to accommodate the breech-bolt 3, 4. On the underside is provided a transverse opening 10 adapted to receive a magazine M, as described in Specification 149,592. Behind the magazine, the receiver is open below to enable the breech mechanism to be readily assembled or disassembled; the opening is closed by a frame F carrying a hand-grip G and the firing mechanism, as described in Specification 148,023, the frame having flanges 22, 23 adapted to slide into corresponding grooves in the receiver. A spring pin 27, Fig. 4, on the receiver secures the frame in position, the spring being so mounted that the pin cannot fall out of its socket. The grip G<1> carries a rearwardly extending lip adapted to engage a guideway 56 in the receiver.
