Abstract

1453778 Latches OVERHEAD DOOR CORP 22 Oct 1974 [1 Nov 1973] 45757/74 Heading E2A A latch and lock structure for a vertically movable door of a ram includes a gravity hook bolt 47 pivotally mounted on the door 12 and cooperable with a pin 29 in an opentop box 13 secured to the ram platform 14, the bolt being operable with lost-motion by a hand lever 33 with a C-shaped free end portion 61 adapted to enter a casing 63 for engagement by a spring-biased locking lever 86 movable against its spring bias to release the hand lever by a crank pin 97 forming part of a key-operated lock cylinder 94. The lever 33 abuts the top of the casing at 82 to limit its clockwise movement, and it has a lug (57) engageable by a catch 53 which serves to hold the lever and the bolt in an inoperative position. The lock cylinder is either of the type whose key is only removable when vertical, i.e. when the lever 86 is in position to engage portion 61 of lever 33, or of the type whose key is only removable when horizontal, i.e. when the lever 86 is not engageable with portion 61 of lever 33. There is lostmotion engagement between the hand lever 33 and the bolt, as described in U.S. Specification 3642314, to permit the bolt to be hammered clear of the pin 29 if necessary.
