Abstract

1394921 Feeding sheets SMYTH MFG CO 20 March 1973 [26 May 1972] 13299/73 Heading B8R [Also in Division B6] A device for feeding stitched books whose spines are coated with adhesive to a casing-in machine comprises a first conveyer 8, a second conveyer 4 periodically tiltable relative to the first to break any adhesive joint between the spines of respective books and to cause a foremost book to abut and be halted aginst a support plate 7, this book being fed on to the machine, when the tilting has ceased, by resiliently urged rollers 6 which accelerate the book to a speed greater than that of a subsequent book on the second conveyer 4. The tilting of the second conveyer 4 is effected by a pneumatic cylinder 3 controlled by a cam driven by the machine. Adjustable side guides 5 are provided. The rollers 6 may have peripheral projections.
