Abstract
1,266,681. Bookbinding machine. SULBY ENG. DEVELOPMENT CO. Ltd. 18 June, 1969 [19 June, 1968], No. 29095/68. Heading B6A. A bookbinding machine is provided with an endless track 2 along which is displaced a succession of clamps 3 holding between them a set of pages and articulated to an endless driven chain 16 to move past a first station A provided with a rotary spine milling device 38 as described in the Specification 1,234,611 and contra-rotating glue applying rollers 41, whereupon when the clamps actuate a warning light (43, Fig. 1) and an operator has fed manually a cover on to a table 45 in front of a second cover feeding station B, the cover fed by rollers 47 and conveyed by pins 50 carried on chain, is raised by a roller 51 into contact with the glued spine of the set of paper and applied to the spine at a cover applying station C which is provided with a device as described in Specification 1,204,492. The clamps 3 then approach a bound book discharging station D at which an arcuate cam rail 30 opens the clamp 3 by actuating a cam follower 25 so as to displace a movable outer clamp plate 18 from an inner fixed clamp plate 6. The book is discharged along an inclined plate 52 which locates them between upstanding pins 54 on a chain moving along a trough to deliver the books either to a stacking shoot 55 or to the table 45 for manual removal by the operator. Chain is driven in opposite directions.
