Abstract
1,207,621. Electric motors. ACCESSAIR S.A. 6 Sept., 1967 [7 Sept., 1966], No. 40755/67. Heading H2A. The wound stator of a spherical induction motor, Fig. 1, is made of a spirally wound punched strip whose succeeding layers are progressively axially displaced to produce the concave air-gap surface required. The moving member, Fig. 3, consists of a soft iron ring 30 with a copper or aluminium coating 31 having short-circuiting end-rings 32, 33. Preferably this coating is, in turn, faced with a magnetic layer 34, e.g. nickel. Alternatively the moving member may be made of sintered iron segments carrying a squirrel cage cast into position. Harmonics may be reduced by facing the stator air-gap with sheet iron (61) (Fig. 6, not shown). The motor may be used to drive a polishing disc at an adaptable angle (Fig. 6, not shown), or a pump in which the rotor and impeller are axially movable to a rest position but executes a tumbling motion when energized to throw out dirt particles (Fig. 9, not shown).
