Abstract

1314901 Core constructions BROOK MOTORS Ltd 24 April 1970 [26 April 1969] 19682/70 Heading H2A A synchronous A.C. motor includes a rotor core having permanent magnets 30, 32, 34, 36, arranged with their polar axes tangential to an imaginary circle drawn in a radial plane about a point on the rotor axis. The rotor core shown produces four poles at circumferential positions between adjacent ends of the magnets. The magnets are mounted in segments 10, 12, 14, 16, of magnetic material which are either separated by flux leakage gaps 18, 20, 22, 24, as shown or are joined by narrow bridging pieces. The segments may be cut away at 40 to reduce their circumferential peripheral extent. The core is slotted to carry a squirrel cage starting winding. By reversing magnets 30, 32, a two pole rotor may be formed.
