Abstract
598,265. Induction motors. CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRO - MECANIQUES DE ST. ETIENNE ANCIENNE USINE WAGEOR. July 11, 1945, No. 17736. Convention date, Nov. 8, 1943. [Class 35] A brake slidable on a motor shaft is urged into its operative position by a spring when the motor is de-energized and disengaged when the motor is re-energized by the attraction by the conical portion of the motor stator of an auxiliary rotor core member connected to the brake. In the form shown, the spring 11 urges the brake 14 against the end bracket 16 when the motor is de-energized but re-energization of stator windings 20 attracts the auxiliary rotor core 10, which may carry a squirrel cage, thereby freeing the brake. The main rotor 2 may have a single or double cage winding or a winding connected to slip rings while the brake may consist of a number of discs alternating with stationary discs.
