Abstract

1,260,028. Coated paper. KURARAY K.K. 15 Dec., 1969 [13 Dec., 1968], No. 61049/69. Heading B2E. Paper is coated with a composition comprising polyvinyl alcohol and the coating treated with an aqueous solution comprising boric acid or a borate and a water-soluble compound of a monovalent or divalent metal or ammonium. The water-soluble salt may be of lithium, sodium, potassium, ammonium or magnesium and the acid radical may be of citric acid or tartaric acid, sulphuric acid, carbonic acid or phosphoric acid. Preferred are sodium sulphate, sodium citrate and magnesium sulphate. A divalent to quadrivalent water-soluble metallic compound of copper, zinc, aluminium, tin, titanium, zirconium, lead, chromium, iron, nickel or cobalt such as zinc sulphate, aluminium sulphate, zirconyl ammonium carbonate and stannic chloride may be present. The polyvinyl alcohol coating may contain starch, carboxymethyl cellulose or latex. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,147,201.
