Abstract

621,217. Electro-plating. METAL & THERMIT CORPORATION. June 27, 1946, No. 19300. Convention date, Jan. 5. [Class 41] A method of regenerating a copper-tin alloy plating bath comprises adding to the bath a substance containing copper stannate either alone or as a major component. One or more of the compounds, copper carbonate, copper cyanide or copper hydroxide may be added to the copper stannate. The mixture may be prepared from the dry salts or by precipitation from solution, by adding for example copper sulphate to a solution containing an alkali metal stannate and one or more soluble salts, the anions of which form a precipitate with the copper of the copper sulphate. The mixture is then dissolved in an aqueous solution of alkali metal cyanide and an alkali metal hydroxide. The tin content of the mixture may be increased by the addition of hydrous tin oxide. The anodes are usually insoluble, but soluble copper or tin anodes may be used to provide some of the copper or tin content to the bath. Specification 571,641 is referred to.
