El uso de la metáfora conceptual es un método prolífico para la creación de neologismos en el len... more El uso de la metáfora conceptual es un método prolífico para la creación de neologismos en el lenguaje científico. Muy a menudo, la traducción y la transmisión conceptual de estas metáforas desde el inglés, la lingua franca, se utiliza para crear nuevos términos en otros idiomas, entre ellos el árabe. En este trabajo, se han aplicado principios de la teoría de la Terminología Basada en Marcos (Faber, 2012) para estudiar la metáfora conceptual del ‘blanqueo del coral’, y para examinar las consecuencias de la transferencia desde el inglés hacia el árabe de este término y los elementos del marco subyacentes. Todo ello permite observar el fenómeno denominado pérdida de dominio en la lengua y cultura receptoras (Bordet, 2016). Los datos se han obtenido a través de un análisis terminológico contrastivo, basado en un corpus de textos especializados en el subdominio del cambio climático.

La metáfora es una herramienta poderosa de innovación, de generación de términos y de conceptuali... more La metáfora es una herramienta poderosa de innovación, de generación de términos y de conceptualización especializada en el discurso científico. En este estudio, se analiza la metáfora subyacente en el neologismo «carbon capture and sequestration» en el subdominio del cambio climático desde el punto de vista de la teoría de la terminología basada en marcos. Se trata de un estudio de caso basado en un corpus inglés-árabe. Los resultados comparan el modelo metafórico del neologismo construido originariamente en inglés y su equivalente creado en árabe a través de un proceso de traducción que implica el trasvase de su marco metafórico.

It is considered to be a prolific tool in the creation of neologisms. Many cognitive models tried to study metaphorisation processes by drawing on metaphor and metonymy based on linguistic evidence. However, recent studies have highlighted the necessity of carrying out empirical tests in order to provide refined results that go beyond the traditional theories of conceptual metaphor and metonymy. This research studies the conceptual constructions and the manifestation of conceptual metaphors ... more This research studies the conceptual constructions and the manifestation of conceptual metaphors in scientific texts in the subdomain of climate change in both English and Arabic language. It also describes the influence of translation processes from English into Arabic in domain loss. For this purpose, this exploratory research presents the results of a contrastive terminological analysis, approached from the perspective of Conceptual Metaphor Theory (Lakoff and Johnson 2003) and Frame-based Terminology (Faber 2012). Reality is represented through cognitive frames or events, resulting from top-down and bottom-up processes. The analysis of conceptual and semantic information extracted from the selected corpus allows categorising reality at a multidimensional level. The main objective of this study is to analyse the metaphorisation processes in the subdomain of climate change. Special emphasis will be placed on the ‘Coral bleaching’ metaphor in English and Arabic. Secondly, the impact of the translation process from English into Arabic used to create this term in Arabic is studied in order to verify its dimension in domain loss. The principles of Frame-based-Terminology (Faber, 2012) are implemented in order to study the conceptual constructions in the domain of climate change. For this reason, an English-Arabic corpus-based analysis is carried out in order to analyse the metaphorisation processes in both English and Arabic. Sketch Engine tool together with other digital technology tools like TRADOS 2015 were used for the compiling of corpus, its alignment and to extract the relevant data.
