2. PRESENTACIÓN
Ya hemos visto y hemos aprendido el uso del verbo “to be” en inglés en presente simple, así que ahora es el
momento de repasar este tiempo verbal y aprender el uso de otros verbos y vocabulario adicional.
PRESENTE SIMPLE
Este tiempo verbal expresa una acción en el presente que tiene lugar regularmente, nunca o
varias veces. También se usa para acciones que se llevan a cabo una tras otra y para acciones
que se establecen por un horario. El presente simple también expresa hechos en el presente.
Por ejemplo:
▪ Utiliza el verbo en infinitivo (por ejemplo, play) con los pronombres personales
I, you, we and they (o con sustantivos plurales).
▪ Aplica las reglas de conjugación que encuentras más adelante para los pronombres personales
he, she, it (o con sustantivos singulares). Por ejemplo agrega la letra “s” para el verbo -play- =
plays-
Las oraciones negativas y las preguntas se forman con el verbo auxiliary “do” y “does”.
REGLAS PARA CONJUGACIÓN DE VERBOS CON TERCERAS PERSONAS DEL SINGULAR (HE, SHE, IT) EN
ORACIONES AFIRMATIVAS EN PRESENTE SIMPLE
Para conjugar los verbos en la tercera persona del singular (he, she, it) generalmente se agrega
la letra -s- al final del verbo. Pero hay algunas excepciones a la regla:
✦ Los verbos -can, may, might, must- permanecen igual con todos los pronombres. Así que no hay
que agregarles la letra -s- al final de éstos.
✦ A los verbos que finalizan en las letras -o, ch, sh, s, x, z- es necesario agregarles las letras “es” al
final del verbo.
✦ Cuando un verbo finaliza en la letra “y” y está precedido por una consonante, es necesario eliminar
la “y” y agregar las letras “ies” al final del verbo.
ADVERBIOS DE FRECUENCIA
Los adverbios de frecuencia, como su nombre lo indica, sirven para señalar cada cuánto tiempo se produce
la acción del verbo (“You’re always complaining!” -¡Siempre estás quejándote!-) o con qué periodicidad
sucede lo expresado por la frase entera. A excepción de “hardly ever” (“casi nunca”), los adverbios de
frecuencia en inglés están formados por una sola palabra.

Las reglas más importantes referentes a los adverbios de frecuencia en inglés tienen que ver con la posición
que ocupan dentro de la oración, dependiendo del tipo de verbo:
I never work on Tuesdays.
I am never sad.

6. What do you often do on the weekends? I often visit my aunt on weekends
7. What kinds of food do you rarely eat? Why? I rarely eat soups
8. What things do you seldom drink? Why? I sometimes drink carrot juice with strawberry
9. What time do you usually get up in the mornings? I usually get up at five in the morning
10. What time do you usually go to bed at night? I usually go to bed at eleven at night
11. What do you hardly ever watch on TV? Why?
I hardly ever watch animated programs on television because I don't like them
12. Do you always text your friends? Why? / Why not?
I always text my friends because I like to talk to them
13. Do you always check your e-mail? Why? / Why not?
I always check my email because there they leave me the tasks of the sena
14. What do you sometimes dream about? I sometimes dream of buying a car for a walk with my family
15. What do you sometimes think about? Why? I sometimes think about how my life will be in the future
