If you're visiting my talk page because I'm becoming too involved in a subject or you believe I don't know enough about said subject, do not hesitate to warn me. Be polite but firm and clear, and don't sugarcoat it. If I've made a mistake, then I've made a mistake and need to be pulled up on it. I added this myself on the 19th of October 2024. I believed it was in order after I jumped headfirst into the proper mess that was this debate and RfC and the subsequent ANI notice. |
IQ cunundrum
editDear sir,I do not believe that having 5 IQ and being able to use this site is possible, seeing as your age has been listed here as 18,I have decided to look into the average IQ of an 18 year old and I found it’s about 105 and I would assume you fall under these pretenses. If you were making a joke I did not find it funny and would kindly ask you correct this scientific inaccuracy. Thank you in advance. 49.186.62.155 (talk) 02:33, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

Wikipedia beginners wanted for user testing
editWikimedia Deutschland is looking for beginner editors for user testing! We are working on some changes that may affect the editing experience, and we want to make sure that our changes don't make things more difficult for beginners. If you made less than 100 edits, we would love to hear from you! More information and a signup: https://greatquestion.co/wikimediadeutschland/4oADuQpx/apply. --Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 10:18, 19 September 2024 (UTC) PS: This is a one-time message to selected beginner editors. editI just reverted the WP:G11 you placed on Waterside hot water hay pellet furnace. It really doesn't come close to qualifying for that criterion. Given your lack of experience on Wikipedia, I think you should stop tagging pages for deletion. Your judgment is not sufficiently developed to do so.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:28, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- Alright, thanks for letting me know. I did take a good long look at the speedy deletion policies and review the sources of the article, I was sitting there for a good 45 minutes trying to figure out whether the article's subject qualified as "significant" as per WP:SIGNIF. The reason I nominated the article under G11 was because reviewing the edit history revealed that the article was originally just copy-pasted from a news site and the original creator only made that one article in their entire time here. I focused my efforts on determining whether the article's subject could be classified as "significant" rather than notable because it didn't really fall under notable due to a lack of sustained media coverage, and after reviewing the sources, I came to the conclusion that there was no real claims of significance or importance around the subject.
- Could you please tell me which part(s) I got wrong? I want to improve and learn from this, and feedback would be greatly appreciated. Sirocco745 (talk) 08:21, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- What website was the article copied from?--Bbb23 (talk) 13:02, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- Cancel that, I was tired and wasn't thinking properly when I wrote that bit. While the very first version of the article had heavy copy-pasting from all four sources, there is obvious evidence that the original author didn't just copy-paste the entire thing.
- With that aside, could you please tell me where I went wrong with my G11 nomination? What did I miss with the article's subject that disqualified it from a G11? Was there another speedy deletion criteria the article better met? Would an AfD have been a better alternative? A merge request with pellet heating? What could I have done better, and what did I miss in my judgement? Sirocco745 (talk) 09:11, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
- You're conflating two many distinct concepts. G11 is for blatant, irredeemable promotion. AfD is for lack of notability, which requires an examination of the subject, the sourcing, the potential sourcing, etc. Tagging articles that have been around for a long time is a touchy business. It's far more common and generally easier to tag new articles. Again, it doesn't sound to me like you're ready for either.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:03, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

Tony Hawk Series
editI was part of the development team of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series. I know my information is 100% accurate. I’m not sure why my edits keep getting reverted. THPSfan (talk) 09:08, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
- When making any edits on Wikipedia, but particularly to sections concerning living people, you must always source your edits. You hadn't given any reason for your changes via the edit summary, nor had you tried to communicate the reason for your edits when they were reverted. A quick tip for when stuff gets reverted on Wikipedia: don't just mentally ask yourself "why did that happen?" when you can just as easily ask the person responsible for the revert.
- In any case, there are a few reasons as to why I reverted your edits. As explained above, the first reason is the information didn't have a source for it. Second, you're a new account. I know that all editors deserve to be treated with good faith, but when you have a username such as THPSfan as well, it immediately leads other users (such as myself) to think you have a conflict of interest. To quote from the first sentence of the policy: "Conflict of interest (COI) editing involves contributing to Wikipedia about yourself, family, friends, clients, employers, or your financial and other relationships."
- Thirdly, TheDeviantPro made an attempt to tell you why your edits were being reverted here. What they said was "This is not accurate as some of them are not even leads on the game, which we only include the leads. Also D'Amato is a Associate Producer which we also not include as per template documentation". You ignored this and proceeded to continue your reverting spree.
- Don't get me wrong, any contribution made in good faith to keep Wikipedia factually correct and neutral is appreciated. However, there are policies and rules in place to be followed. Maybe a Level 3 Warning was a bit too far of a jump, but I made that decision based on the limited evidence available to me. Sirocco745 (talk) 09:18, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Sirocco745; I suspect this is the same user who went as Dujara22, who was blocked months ago for making the same kind of edits. TheDeviantPro (talk) 09:44, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up, I was unaware of that account and was simply following the pattern of your prior reverts. Sirocco745 (talk) 09:46, 12 October 2024 (UTC)

Question
editAre you familiar with the term “amatonormativity”? That’s why I removed that picture. There is no need for that to be on there. It’s a non-mainspace funny page. It’s not relevant. 2603:8001:C2F0:7D0:A8A5:BCAF:5476:2D2 (talk) 04:55, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- Your edit was unconstructive, so I reverted it. Societal norms and perceptions may have changed since the image was added, but that doesn't mean there's a valid reason to remove it. I've seen the edits you've made on your IP range and I am deeply sorry that you're experiencing tough times, but Wikipedia is genuinely not the place to vent your frustrations. Ever heard the saying "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar"? Being emo and disruptive because of your current situation won't garner you any favour in most people's eyes, mine included. I know I sound like I'm being "holier than thou" right now, but if you make a proper attempt to find the right people and reach out to them in a polite and humble manner, I genuinely think you'll be surprised at how receptive and willing people are to help. I genuinely would love to help you, but you're actively resisting help, and only those who are willing to change will actually ever change. I'm sorry, but I can't help you. Maybe someone will someday, and I'm praying that day will come, but I am not that person, and this isn't the place to look for them.

- You’re giving up on me already? It’s okay, I’m used to it. I’m used to people telling me i can’t be helped because I don’t want to help myself. I’m very used to it. I am very aware I’m a lost cause. I am the most defeatist, combative, and stubborn person you know, and that’s why people love to pick on me. I chase people away from me because of my behavior. Best I can do is just beg people to talk to me anonymously. 2603:8001:C2F0:7D0:A8A5:BCAF:5476:2D2 (talk) 05:24, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- I never said you couldn't be helped, I simply said that Wikipedia wasn't the place to seek help. If you want to talk more with me privately, I've provided my email address. The decision to take the leap of faith is up to you, I can see why you're afraid to do it, and I honestly can't blame you. I won't say anything more on here, but one last piece of advice here: have you ever heard the idiom "suicide is a permanent solution to temporary problems"? It's not true. Suicide is not a solution in any way conceivable, and it creates immeasurably more problems than it "solves". Sirocco745 (talk) 05:34, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

- By the way, the "little brother" excuse only works once on most people. Even if it or something like it is the actual truth about what happened, it loses authenticity when an edit becomes a pattern. If you intend to keep editing Wikipedia, I recommend creating an account. If you don't intend to but also don't intend to vandalise Wikipedia, I recommend just keeping an eye out on your IP's contributions every now and then. Sirocco745 (talk) 01:36, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

Hello, Sirocco745,
This was an orphaned talk page and you decided to post a notice on it that was more appropriate for a User talk page. Instead, next time you come across one, please tag it for speedy deletion, CSD G8. If you haven't started using Twinkle, I encourage you to try it out, it makes tagging pages for deletion very simple and straight-forward. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 05:56, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Damn it, I was sure I was replying to the IP user who originally created the talk page! Oh well, mistakes happen. And thanks for the tip, but I've already been using Twinkle for a few months now! It's quite a handy tool, I just sometimes do these things by hand so I don't bloat my edits with lots of automated tagging. Sirocco745 (talk) 06:01, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

editI've just seen your conflict of interest warning at User talk:Gary the Gary. I think it's much better than the standard templated COI message, and also better than a message which I wrote years ago and have kept to reuse. Is it OK if I keep a copy of your message to use in future? (That is to say to reuse with appropriate changes for particular cases. One of the reasons, though by no means the only reason, why templated messages are often unhelpful is that they don't address the particular features of each case.) Australia RfC
editHello there
I hope you don't mind my dropping in on your Talk page but I didn't want to complicate the request for comment with side issues. The idea that Captain Cook or any other British official classified Aboriginal Australians as "fauna" is a myth. See [1]
Also Captain Cook did not explore the east coast of Australia with the intention of turning it into a penal colony. He explored the east coast in 1770 and America didn't declare independence until 1776. Cook was looking for the unknown southern continent which was supposed to be a fertile land somewhere in the southern hemisphere. Historian Geoffrey Blainey wrote a great book on his voyage called Captain Cook's Epic Voyage. I can highly recommend it. Cook's instructions said nothing about Australia (which was called New Holland in those days) but Cook was excited by the idea of being the first man to map the east coast of that land. He wanted to go down in history and he nearly killed everyone on the Endeavour in the process. His instructions explicitly stated that he wasn't to claim any land for Britian without the consent of the natives. But he ignored these instructions and "claimed" the east coast of new Holland for Britain. The British government didn't much care about this claim until its American colonies revolted and they needed a place to dump their convicts. It was Sir Joseph Banks who suggested that Botany Bay was just the place to dump them. Cook was dead by this time. Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 10:48, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Ooh, interesting! I didn't actually know that the timeline of events went that way, they didn't teach us that part in school XD Sirocco745 (talk) 20:33, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
