Revision as of 01:52, 15 August 2017

This page lists individual editors subject to editing restrictions (also called personal sanctions), which includes bans and other types of restrictions; editors who are subject to site bans are listed at Category:Banned Wikipedia users instead. These restrictions may be imposed by the Arbitration Committee or the Wikipedia community. These do not include general sanctions, that apply to all editors working in particular topic areas.

The Arbitration Committee may impose restrictions on users engaged in inappropriate behavior, usually following a request for arbitration. Such restrictions may be modified or revoked by the Committee by motion; usually following a request for amendment of the original case.

The community may also impose a number of different editing restrictions on users engaged in inappropriate behavior, usually at an administrators' noticeboard. Such restrictions may be revoked at the same venue by the community when the community believes that they are no longer necessary.

If a user has repeatedly violated policy to the point that any further violation will result in a block, specific final warnings worthy of documenting may also be listed here under "Final warnings". This section is only for warnings regarding the further violation of existing policies, rather than for added restrictions that revoke an editor's normal editing privileges. For this purpose, an unblock condition that explicitly indicates that the user will be reblocked if violated is considered a "final warning".

    Types of restrictions

The following is a list of the most common types of restrictions, however, the wording of such remedies may vary, so be sure to check the wording in each particular case in the first instance prior to relying on default recommendations. Restrictions that do not specify a duration are considered to be indefinite by default. These restrictions are usually enforced by blocking the user if they violate them. More unique restrictions which have been imposed in unusual circumstances are not listed.

    Account restriction
The user is limited to editing with a certain number of accounts (usually 1).
    Civility restriction
The user may be sanctioned (including blocks) if they make any edits which are judged by an administrator to be uncivil, personal attacks, or assumptions of bad faith.
    Probation (supervised editing)
The user on probation may be banned from pages that they edit in a certain way (usually disruptively) by an uninvolved administrator. Probation is usually used as an alternative to an outright topic ban in cases where the editor shows some promise of learning better behavior.
    Move ban
The user is prohibited from directly moving (renaming) pages with the page move feature (sometimes only related to specific topics or namespaces).
    Revert restriction
Usually, the user is limited to a certain number of reverts (usually 1) per page/topic per period of time (usually: 24 hours or 1 week) – exceptions, such as obvious vandalism, may apply. The user is additionally required to discuss any content reversions on the page's talk page.
    Topic ban
The user is prohibited from editing either (1) any page (or section of a page) relating to a particular topic, (2) particular pages that are specified in the ban, and/or (3) making any edits in relation to a particular topic. Such a ban may include or exclude corresponding talk pages.
    page/article ban
The user is prohibited from editing a specific page or set of pages specified in the ban. Such a ban may include or exclude corresponding talk pages.
    Interaction ban
The user is prohibited from interacting with one or more users.

    Enforcement

Editors who violate Arbitration-imposed restrictions may be blocked or otherwise sanctioned as described in the relevant Arbitration case. It is always best for enforcement actions to be taken by uninvolved administrators. Generally, blocks for violating civility restriction, revert limitation, or topic bans start at 24 hours per violation, but may escalate after multiple violations. All blocks and topic bans should be logged at the relevant Arbitration case page. Administrators who plan on enforcing Arbitration restrictions should check the case page for any case-specific enforcement language. For more information see Arbitration enforcement.

Magioladitis Magioladitis Editing restriction Magioladitis is restricted from making any semi-automated edits which do not affect the rendered visual output of a page. This restriction does not apply to edits which address issues related to accessibility guidelines. Further, Magioladitis may seek consensus to perform a specific type of semi-automated edit that would normally fall under this restriction at the administrators' noticeboard. Any uninvolved administrator may close such a discussion with consensus to perform a specific type of semi-automated edit. All discussions should be logged on the case page, regardless of outcome. George Ho The Rambling Man Editing restriction George Ho (talk · contribs) is indefinitely restricted from participating in selecting main page content. For clarity, this means he may not participate in:
    1. Any process in which the content of the main page is selected, including Did you know?, In the news, On this day, Today's featured article, Today's featured list, and Today's featured picture.
    2. Any process in which possible problems with the content of the main page are reported, including WP:ERRORS and Talk:Main Page.
    3. Any discussion about the above processes, regardless of venue.

He may edit articles linked from or eligible to be linked from the main page (e.g., the current featured article) and may participate in content review processes not directly connected to main page content selection (e.g., reviewing Featured article candidates). He may request reconsideration of this restriction twelve months after the enactment of this remedy, and every six months thereafter.

The Rambling Man The Rambling Man Civility restriction The Rambling Man (talk · contribs) is prohibited from insulting and/or belittling other editors.

If The Rambling Man finds himself tempted to engage in prohibited conduct, he is to disengage and either let the matter drop or refer it to another editor to resolve.

If however, in the opinion of an uninvolved administrator, The Rambling Man does engage in prohibited conduct, he may be blocked for a duration consistent with the blocking policy. The first four blocks under this provision shall be arbitration enforcement actions and may only be reviewed or appealed at the arbitration enforcement noticeboard. Should a fifth block prove necessary, the blocking administrator must notify the Arbitration Committee of the block via a Request for Clarification and Amendment so that the remedy may be reviewed.

The enforcing administrator may also at their discretion fully protect The Rambling Man's talk page for the duration of the block.

Nothing in this remedy prevents enforcement of policy by uninvolved administrators in the usual way.

Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) Restriction Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) is indefinitely prohibited from uploading images or other media files to the English Wikipedia. The Arbitration Committee notes that media files can be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons, a project which is outside the jurisdiction of this Committee. Should Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) upload a copyright-violating image to the Wikimedia Commons and subsequently make use of that image on the English Wikipedia in any namespace, he may be subject to Arbitration Enforcement as if the image were uploaded directly to the English Wikipedia in violation of this remedy. This shall apply retroactively to all images currently uploaded by Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) to the Wikimedia Commons at the time this remedy is enacted, but shall not apply retroactively to any uses on the English Wikipedia in existence at the time this case closes. Indefinite
Restriction Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) is prohibited from linking as a reference any external site to which he has contributed. He may provide such links on the talk pages of articles, so they may be reviewed by other editors for acceptance according to applicable Wikipedia guidelines and policies; if accepted, another editor may add these links as desired. Indefinite
Topic ban The Committee acknowledges that Richard Arthur Norton (1958- )'s community-placed topic ban on article creations was a valid and apparently successful attempt to curb his text-based copyright violations, and further recognizes that this sanction has been violated a number of times. This topic ban will remain in place and is assumed under the Arbitration Committee's authority. After at least six months have elapsed, Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) may appeal to the Committee to have the topic ban lifted in full; in order for appeals of this remedy to be considered, he shall be required to submit evidence of substantial work on his part towards resolving the Contributor Copyright Investigations filed against him, most particularly the one focused on his text contributions. Cirt Cirt and Jayen466 Topic ban Cirt is prohibited from making any edit of whatever nature to articles relating to new religious movements or their adherents, broadly construed, or to any associated biographies of living people. Indefinite
Editing restriction Cirt is prohibited from editing articles that are substantially biographies of living people if, broadly but reasonably construed, (i) the articles already refer to politics or religion or social controversy; or (ii) his edits introduce to the articles material about politics or religion or social controversy. However, Cirt is permitted to edit other articles that refer incidentally to such living people providing (i) the focus of the articles is not substantially biographical and (ii) his edits are not biographical in nature.

Should Cirt's continued editing raise further concerns about his compliance with the BLP policy, the Committee may expand the scope of this restriction by motion to include all editing relating to living persons. Conversely, if Cirt conforms his future editing to applicable policies and the principles set forth in this decision and Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Manipulation of BLPs, he may submit a request for amendment after one year from the date of this decision seeking a relaxation of this restriction.

Noleander Noleander Topic ban Noleander (talk · contribs) is topic-banned from making any edit relating to Judaism, the Jewish people, Jewish history or culture, or individual Jewish persons identified as such, broadly but reasonably construed, in any namespace.

Any disputes concerning the scope of the topic-ban may be raised on the Arbitration Enforcement page for prompt resolution. Unnecessary "wikilawyering" about the precise scope of the topic-ban is unwelcome and may be cause for further sanctions.

This topic-ban shall be effective indefinitely, but Noleander may request that it be terminated or modified after at least one year has elapsed. In considering any such request, the Committee will give significant weight to whether Noleander has established an ability to edit collaboratively and in accordance with Wikipedia policies and guidelines in other topic-areas of the project. Any perceptibly biased or prejudiced editing concerning any other group would weigh against lifting of the topic-ban and could also result in further sanctions.

Magioladitis Topic ban Magioladitis is topic banned from initiating or participating in discussions concerning the amendment, removal, or replacement of WP:COSMETICBOT, or the in discussions concerning the impact of WP:COSMETICBOT on other bot operators (such as whether or not bot operators are allowed, or should be required, to perform WP:GENFIXES with their own bots, or theoretical bots which may be developped in the future). As an exception to this ban, he may make a single !vote with a short (<300 words) rationale if the discussion calls for !voting, and give single short replies (<300 words) to other editors when directly asked a question (1 reply per direct question).

Magioladitis may, in good faith, seek specific clarifications on how to interpret COSMETICBOT for his own bots and projects he is involved with (such as WP:CHECKWIKI), but may only do so on his bots' talk page, at the relevant project's talk page (such as WT:CHECKWIKI or an appropriate subpage), or at WP:BOTN. In other words, asking questions like "When is CW Error #02 considered a cosmetic edit?" or "Should CW Error #02's priority be lowered to 'Medium' or 'Low' important?" is fine, asking/arguing "WP:COSMETICBOT hampers our ability to do WP:CHECKWIKI fixes, how can we ammend/fix/ignore WP:COSMETICBOT?" is not.

As an additional exception, Magioladitis may continue to participate in any active discussion he has started from before the topic ban until its natural conclusion. He may not start new threads, subthreads, or unarchive old threads, and a discussion is considered concluded when the thread is archived, either by bot or by user

User:Técnico Topic ban Técnico is topic banned from Breitbart News and related pages, broadly construed, for one month. He is also put on probation for one year, such that if similar disruption as that described in the ANI thread should recur at Talk:Breitbart News when the month has expired, or if it should move to other pages or topics, then he can be given a more extensive topic ban on the discretion of any single admin. ANI discussion 2017-06-30 One month plus probation for one year
Legacypac and Godsy Interaction ban A two-way IBAN is imposed between User:Godsy and User:Legacypac, subject to the standard exceptions. Additionally, each one may !vote once on an XFD started by the other, or both may !vote on a third-party XFD, but neither may comment or otherwise respond to the other's !vote. This ban shall be indefinite, and may be appealed at WP:AN by either party after 12 months. ANI Discussion 2017-07-01 Indefinite
Legacypac Page move ban The consensus is to indefinitely topic ban Legacypac from moving "any type of draft content into the mainspace". This would be broadly interpreted as moving articles that were created by anyone, including themselves, from Draft:, User: or any other space, to main space. Legacypac is restricted to using WP:AFC for their own articles. While not mentioned specifically in the proposal. Per standard terms, this ban may be appealed in 6 months and every 6 months thereafter that it is not successful. ANI discussion 2017-06-18 Indefinite
Magioladitis Editing restriction The proposal to ban Magioladitis from using AWB passes, and he is banned from using AWB or any other semi-automated or automated editing tools on his main account for a period of 2 months ... Magioladitis can appeal to the community for his AWB ban to be removed on or after 7 September, so giving a firm 2 month ban and leaving the community with the option to lift the ban or continue it as they see fit after that time. If no consensus is reached then, I would suggest the ban automatically be lifted at that point (i.e definite consensus needed to extend the ban). I would also ask/suggest that any breach of this ban be reported to the Arbitration Committee rather than raising the issue at ANI. ... (includes) any new or existing additional accounts without a bot flag beginning to use AWB or any other semi-automated or automated tools. ANI discussion 2017-07-07 Indefinite

Tanbircdq WP:SOCK, conditional unblock First, you are restricted to a single account indefinitely. This restriction may be lifted or modified by the community or by myself to allow another account to be used for some specific purpose. Note that this restriction bars you from even those use cases of alternate accounts that are typically considered legitimate (e.g. public-use accounts or bot accounts) unless the restriction is lifted or modified.
Second, for the next six months, any uninvolved administrator may re-block you at their discretion for any disruptive activities, up to and including an indefinite block. This more-or-less formalizes the reality for all standard offers; this is a last chance, and there are no warnings left to be had. ~ Rob13Talk 18:43, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
