Summary
“You took your sweet time,” Laurent said, turning his head slightly to the side, over one bare shoulder, just enough so Damen could see his face. His eyes were downcast, hidden from view; his long eyelashes grazing the top of his cheeks. “A couple minutes longer and I might have sent for you.”
The sheer dark pink ribbons that bound Laurent’s arms together behind his back dug into his pale skin when he shifted on the mattress. The same happened to his thighs and his ass, where the fabric hugged them snugly. Laurent didn’t seem bothered by it, though his fussy skin was starting to get pink where it rubbed against his bindings when he moved. It had to be very uncomfortable, particularly so because he was completely naked underneath.
“Sweetheart,” Damen chided. “What are you doing?”

Summary
“You know I didn’t mean it.”
“You know you did.”
Laurent’s voice had changed. Ever since the scene at the dining hall, Laurent’s face had been an open book. For a moment, he’d turned into the little brother Auguste remembered and cherished from his childhood. Confused, sweet. In need of his big brother’s help and protection. Now, he was back at where they’d started a couple years ago, ever since Auguste had to leave to serve at Marlas. Ever since Laurent had begged him for the last time, Auguste, please, don’t go, don’t leave me alone.

Summary
Damen hung up. Laurent released the breath he’d been holding, his hands slowly uncurling, eyes still closed. He didn’t need Auguste to come all the way here—he didn’t want him to. Auguste was busy. It was a five-hour drive. He deep down had known this would happen, there was no way anything could’ve gone differently when Laurent had been ignoring all his calls, but…
Damen took his wrist again, this time gently. His other hand came to rest on Laurent’s thigh. Laurent opened his eyes. Damen wasn’t looking at him, his eyes were glued to Laurent’s hand. He brushed his thumb over his bruised knuckles, and Laurent shivered when it sent a small wave of pain down his spine.
“Your ass is going to be seven different shades of red after this little stunt.” Damen informed, calmly, his eyes dark.

Summary
Damen rubbed a hand up Laurent’s side, lifting his shirt slightly.
“I am going to spank you,” he said.
Laurent’s head felt light for a moment. Unsteady on his own feet, he braced his hands on Damen’s arms, who held him without any problem. None of them looked away, not for one second, but Laurent blinked many times, like trying to see through the fog. His grip on Damen was so tight it would very likely leave marks. Damen didn’t mind, he never did.
“I haven’t done anything wrong,” Laurent said.
“No,” Damen said, calmly. “You haven’t.”

Summary
“What did you tell Nikandros?”
“The truth,” Laurent’s tone hadn’t changed, but Damen could feel him perk up at the question, like he’d been waiting for it. “That he’s nothing but a dog, who will follow instructions blindly. He seemed to be in need to be reminded of his place.”
“That’s not what made him hit you.”

Summary
He flew too high, fingertips grazing the blistering edge of the sun. For one trembling second, he thought he’d made it, until the heat stole his wings, left him to plummet into the eternal darkness. Light did not guide him out, only the cold certainty that the man he’d called Father had never been his, and the weight of knowing he’d failed the one person who mattered most. Over and over, his mind lingered on the fragments of what he could have done differently, if he’d only listened to Gallagher, if he’d dared to open his eyes and see the dream for the lie it was.
The Penacony incident was supposed to be the end of that chapter, a clean slate. Sunday’s place on the Astral Express had felt like proof that he'd made it out intact, like maybe there was something left to salvage.
But ghosts never stay buried for long, do they? He should’ve known better.
He thought he could outrun it all.
He thought wrong.
--
Character study about Sunday and his unhealthy coping mechanisms. Himeko assigns Welt to look over Sunday and make him know that the Astral Express welcomes him, no matter how tattered or torn he was on the surface.
