Years ago, the whirlwind romance and marriage of Irene Attolia and Helen Eddis ended in a spectacularly messy divorce. Charming Helen got the better end of the stick in the divorce proceedings, save for one thing: her most prized former possession, patronage of Ephestalia’s Thief.
Nowadays, Irene owns and operates the small company MTN Acquisitions, specialists in obtaining a wide variety of objects for customers who can pay. Besides Eugenides, her employees include one Dr. e dai Annux, whose salary negotiation skills when offered a position of authority are highly questionable, and one young Ormentiedes whose opinion of interning at his adoptive aunt’s company is an enthusiastic, “Brilliant!”
If Gen, Kamet, Costis, and Irene can quit bickering with one another for long enough to satisfy their customers and to stay one step ahead of Helen’s efforts to reclaim her Thief, then maybe, just maybe … MTN Acquisitions will avoid going under from its debts.
