Tale as Old as Crime

Summary:

A relyric of “Beauty and the Beast” (a.k.a. “Tale as Old as Time”), about the relationship between the Queen Thief and the Minister of War.

Notes:

“Mole god” is a reference to this tumblr post by the great MWT. It’s the mascot of the QT fandom’s Weird the Tag event, but this is a work that, while not part of Weird the Tag, is still inspired by the mole god’s spirit of “make quick slapdash art of any quality, just for the heck of it.” (Please feel free to use the tag on your own fics!)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Tale as old as crime
Would-be enemies
Passing in the halls
Somebody’s heart falls
Unexpectedly

Just a twist of fate
Love and disbelief
She, assassin’s heir
He, prince to beware
Hector and the Thief

Never liked by priests
Nor approved at court
Scandalous romance
Radiant as a dance
Gods alone could thwart

Tale as old as crime
Grins as gold as sun
Tender and unplanned
Trading hand for hand
Facing life as one

Love that fills the sky
Life that lasts too brief
Tale as old as crime
Hearts as bold as time
Hector and the Thief

Tale as old as crime
Hearts as bold as time
Hector and the Thief.

Notes:

This work is in some sense a companion piece to “No Way We’re in Love.”
