Summary
The salty smell of the ocean air filled his chest as he neared the beach. The sound of the rolling tide rang in his eyes, overtaking the silence. The lull crash of the waves was a comforting melody.
The tension in his shoulders fell when he stepped foot onto the sand. It was soft under his weight, cushioning each step he took. It collected in his slides and met his skin, cold in the absence of the sun.
He stood stiff as a statue before the shoreline. His eyes fixed on the horizon. The moon was bright, the sky was clear of clouds, thousands of stars decorated the darkness. It was a rather beautiful night, despite itself. One more step and he was in range. The water came sweeping forward once more, enveloping his feet. An electric chill jolted him, the January water came with a bitter cold. His breath hitched.
His mind, once swimming with thoughts, was washed clean, completely blank. His senses flooded with the sea.
“Come to watch the tide?” A voice spoke from beside him.
Tyler flinched at the unexpected company. His eyes darted to the source. A young man stood a few feet from him.
