Even as the words left her mouth, she knew they weren’t true. Hadn’t always been true.
But she wanted them to be. She was trying. Because something had happened to her children. Something they hadn’t been able to talk about until the earth cracked open beneath their feet and monsters crawled out, and she still knew there were things they hadn’t told her. Might never tell her.
“There’s something I have to say,” Nancy began, voice hard but steady, “and you’re not going to like it.”
