Summary
An ex-nomad of a tyrannical, fallen clan turned rookie merc of Night City, V is no stranger to death.
She carries the weight of it with her always, haunted by the many ghosts of her past that she feels inconsolably responsible for. Her own mortality, however, has lost it's bite completely, having come face to face with it so many times that the reality of it holds no power over her anymore. All that truly matters to her now is making it all worth something. To live and die on her own terms.
But when V is forced to face her mortality for what she fears will be the final time, she struggles to accept that she no longer has any real control at all anymore in this devastating new reality of their mutually assured destruction.
And she hates him for it.
As the edges of her and Johnny's minds and souls begin to blur into a strange new trust in one another, however, V finds herself in a constant battle between her fading will to fight like hell to regain some semblence of control back, and a creeping desire to just let go instead... to allow herself to give in to that sharp, alluring ache they both inevitably feel near her heart.

Summary
V gets a call from a stranger asking to meet. Then this stranger says he’s a detective and starts asking questions V doesn’t want to answer. Problem is, she can’t seem to shake him, plus he gives her the warm fuzzies and Johnny hates it. Maybe keeping cops from getting too close was a rule that was meant to be broken.
This was inspired by a theory I saw somewhere that River was originally going to be the one that found V in the landfill. I wanted to explore how that could've looked plus further development in V and River's relationship.
